Although I wasn't among the lucky 5,000 players who gained access to the closed beta test, I'm grateful to YouTuber shooothim1991 for allowing me permission to share some of his gameplay footage, giving us an early glimpse into Codename Jade.
The combat system, strikingly reminiscent of the last three mainline Assassin's Creed games, seemed to strike a perfect balance for mobile devices. It retains the series' signature elements such as stealth and assassination mechanics, albeit with a touch control implementation, promising a seamless and enjoyable experience on mobile platforms.
Set in third-century BC China during the Qin dynasty, Assassin's Creed Codename Jade is rumored to release next year, and is set to be a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. It's both good and bad news, as free-to-play ensures accessibility for everyone to easily download and play the game, but the model currently has become synonymous with gacha gaming and grindy progression. If the game avoids falling into the pitfalls of excessive monetization, it has the potential to become a remarkable addition to the franchise.
