Important Notice: all player data to be transferred to the official game server
921 View2021-04-21Hello everyone! We’ve seen so many of you contribute to the early access testing thus far, and we’d like to thank you guys for being such awesome, enthusiastic testers! To say that we are grateful is an understatement, as it takes a lot of time and effort to spot bugs, collect evidence, and report them to the devs. As such, we see all of you as an extension of our development team, and not just regular players who like the game.
Now, to the important news: In the past, we mentioned that your game data will be migrated from our early access server to an official preview server once it’s ready. However, we’ve made a separate decision: as we move to the final stage of testing, we will convert the early access server that you are using now into our official server. This is a big change that will bring on a new set of challenges for both us devs and you players. Having made this decision, we can’t use the “early access testing” excuse to evade questions or cover up serious mistakes. From here on out, we will be treading carefully in terms of improving the game and making sure that all your reports are attended to, especially in cases where it’s game-breaking.
What does this mean for us developers?
With this decision, we will also need to take every incident and every reward giveaway seriously. Future reward giveaways will be similar to what we’re giving out right now, but the difference is that the reward amount will be determined by the time you join the party. The essence is that a veteran player will naturally have more rewards, e.g. coins and stardust because he’s been part of the game for longer, and would have participated in more events than a new player who joined later.
Players who are currently playing the game in the early access server will be considered veteran players when the official server opens. Migrating your data and progress over to the official server will help us avoid a situation where some “newly registered” veterans dominate the game and outrank actual new players on the official server as a result of how the matchmaking system groups players based on their in-game ranking. We hope this will help new players adapt quickly to the game with minimal smurfing.
Before we convert the early access server into the official server, we will prepare a “Preview Server” to test hero abilities balance, look for serious bugs, and so on. Those who are "lucky" enough to try this Preview Server will do so with brand new accounts which are not linked to the data from our early access server. This will save us tremendous efforts in data migration.
What does this mean for you players?
Your current data and progress will be saved and completely transferred to our official server. Your special emojis and costumes obtained during early access will also be ported over, including items that are no longer available, such as the old Sivi items in earlier versions. Considering this, we will also stop providing exclusive emojis for podium players in future competitions. This way, we will not have to increase the size of everyone’s game installation package just for a very small number of players to own these emojis, which might also result in unexpected and undesirable consequences.
What are some potential issues we might face?
The first issue we anticipate is the gap between new and veteran players, which is caused by differences in playtime. Thanks to the matching rules, players with a lower rank can only challenge those who are at similar levels.
The second thing is related to emojis that are no longer available. In the future, we will officially release some of them in various ways. For the rest, you can keep them in your accounts as mementos of the early access phase. We hope you will cherish them, as they are rare, and took much effort to design; we’d be heartbroken to see them get traded like whimsical trinkets!
The last thing involves the leaderboard – it is not fair to new players, and hence we cannot guarantee that there won’t be any further adjustments to the ranking rules. For now, we do not have solutions yet, but will keep you updated when we do. If you have any good suggestions, please let us know.
We hope you like the decision we made, but of course, if you are strongly against it, we can work out something to bring back the old early access environment.
