High-speed, little toys arcade-style racing | Impressions - Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged

The first game was one of my lowkey go-to racing games to play on the Steam Deck. Now it gets a sequel which honestly flew under my radar until its release recently. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is continuation of the original game with some noticeable improvements, especially in the gameplay and content.
The game tries to tell a story about massive monsters invading the city, which adds a narrative layer to the racing events. I find the story a bit disjointed though with the actual gameplay and racing parts of the game, which is probably 99% of the game, fortunately.

Content wise, there are a lot of subtle gameplay enhancements. New vehicle types and classes such as Off-Road and Drifters, or ATVs and Bikes are added. There is also a new type of race called Waypoint, which is completely offtrack and is set throughout the five environments in the game: Gas Station, Mini-Golf, Museum, Arcade, and Backyard.
Gameplay wise, two new abilities are added to spice up the action: Jumping and sideways dashes. Jumping to go over track gaps, obstacles, and enemies, and dashes for better maneuverability and  to bump enemies to the sides.
Overall, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged feels very similar to it's predecessor. With similar graphics and arcade racer feel to it. Just with enough improvements that it gets a pass from being a full-on sequel instead of being an expansion, DLC, or a mere update. If you love the first game, then this is no question a must buy for you. If you're just looking for a Hot Wheels racing experience on a video game, then look no further, no need to play the first.

A lowkey good racing game gets a lowkey good sequel | Review - Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged
✨Overview Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, the sequel to the 2021 original, comes charging onto the scene with high-octane racing and the beloved charm of Hot Wheels. Although the game's popularity pales in comparison to giants like Forza or Gran Turismo, The original game — Hot Wheels Unleashed — was a lowkey good racing game and had a moderate amount of success, and this game offers a similar but enhanced experience compared to its predecessor. While it doesn't introduce groundbreaking changes, it refines and expands upon the elements that made the first game enjoyable.

HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED™ 2 - Turbocharged (Reviewed) Developer: Milestone S.r.l. Publisher: Milestone S.r.l. Released: October 19, 2023 Price: 40 USD I never imagined that I'd be looking at a series of toys that I and many others of our generation played with every day, instead of gathering around TVs and computer screens, we acted away with extremely exaggerated hot-wheels and dinky racing. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged adds more freedom, as well as frustrations
SHOULD I PLAY HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED 2: TURBOCHARGED? This is a great choice if you’re looking for some low-stakes, pick-up-and-play racing action, very much the way playing with Hot Wheels toys felt as a kid. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged addresses many of the issues with the first game, and while it introduces some new frustrations of its own, it’s generally a ton of fun whether you’re playing solo, in split-screen, or in online multiplayer.
