It's no secret I'm a massive fan of The Assassin's Creed series, and when thinking about what makes this franchise shine, why wouldn't I be? Secret societies, ancient godlike humanoids, and, of course, all of those exotic historical locations! It has almost everything I love in a game. From the cobblestone streets of Florence to the grandeur of Rome's ancient ruins, Assassin's Creed allows you to step into the footsteps of iconic characters like Ezio Auditore and experience the rich tapestry of history, culture, and intrigue that have made the series the iconic franchise we see today.
With the release of Assassin's Creed Mirage, we get another exciting historical location to immerse ourselves in and over the years, Assassin's Creed has inspired many locations that have sparked both my intellectual curiosity and my love of travel! Whether you're a fan of the games or simply interested in history and adventure, these destinations are sure to leave a lasting impression. Here are my top eight favorite destinations from the series.

1. Rome, Italy: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

One of my dreams is to roam through the ancient ruins of Rome, just as Ezio did in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. The Colosseum, Roman Forum, and the architectural marvels scattered across the city are a testament to Rome's rich history. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is easily one of my favorites in the series, allowing me to relive the grandeur and intrigue of the Eternal City.

2. Jerusalem: Assassin's Creed

The vibrant city of Jerusalem serves as the backdrop for the first Assassin's Creed. While the in-game representation is somewhat stylized, the real Jerusalem still captivates with its historical significance. Visit the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock to experience the ancient beauty of this city

3. Athens, Greece: Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Few cities on Earth can rival Athens when it comes to the sheer weight of history and culture. Assassin's Creed Odyssey takes us on a journey to the birthplace of democracy, philosophy, and some of the world's most enduring myths and legends, and it stands out as one of my favorite Assassin's Creed games.

4. Paris, France: Assassin's Creed Unity

The city of lights needs no introduction, and
Assassin's Creed Unity transports players to the 18th-century French Revolution. Paris boasts iconic landmarks such as the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Palace of Versailles and brings to life the turbulent historical period. Interesting aside, Unbisoft even donated €500,000 in 2019 to help the restoration effort of Notre Dame after a fire. Paris is a place of romance, art, fashion, and culinary delights, and it’s definitely one of my favorite locations from the series.

5. Alexandria, Egypt: Assassin's Creed Origins

While the game's version of Alexandria is fictionalized, the real city is steeped in history and culture. The Qaitbay Citadel, Pompey's Pillar, and the Mediterranean ambiance all connect to the game's setting. I was lucky enough to explore the city myself, and part of me wanted to take a leap of faith right off the top of the citadel!

6. London, England: Assassin's Creed Syndicate

Assassin's Creed Syndicate takes you into Victorian-era London, where you can explore famous locations such as the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace. London is a city over a thousand years old and deserves its spot on this list.

7. Baghdad, Iraq (Abbasid Caliphate): Assassin's Creed Mirage

Admittedly, Baghdad is one of those places I never imagined traveling to or really even thought about outside of
the many news reports we all saw back in 2003, and this is why Assassin's Creed Mirage is so awesome! It depicts the history and cultural significance of Baghdad during the Abbasid Empire and opened my eyes to a land that's often portrayed as hostile. It was great learning about the culture of ancient Baghdad and immersing myself in something entirely outside my frame of reference.

8. Havana, Cuba: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

The colorful colonial architecture of Havana and its historic charm provide a taste of the Caribbean allure featured in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The real Havana offers a vibrant cultural experience, beautiful beaches, music, and dance and is well worth the visit, even if it's no longer full of swashbuckling action!

Assassin's Creed (literally "the Creed of the Assassins") is a series of historical action-adventure and infiltration video games in the open world (platform limit), developed and published by Ubisoft. The main titles developed by Ubisoft Montreal were released on 7th generation consoles (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), 8th generation (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U and Nintendo Switch) and 9th generation (Xbox Series, PlayStation 5) as well as only on PC, while the secondary episodes were released on portable consoles (Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita) and on mobile phones (Java, Android, iOS). The principle of the game is based on the “Animus”[2], a machine capable of reading the genetic memory of a subject, that is to say the memory of their ancestors. This concept allows you to explore various places and eras of the past. The protagonist of the first parts of the series is Desmond Miles, a young American with ancestors who are part of the Order of Assassins, a centuries-old oriental sect.[3] We thus discover in Assassin's Creed, the first game in the series released in 2007, Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad, a master Assassin who lived in the Holy Land during the Third Crusade, then various characters who lived in different historical periods[4]. The Brotherhood of Assassins is in the series in constant conflict with the Templars who also continued to exist in the game, even after their official dissolution. The latest episode, Assassin's Creed Mirage, released in 2023, takes place in 862 AD. BC and explores the Baghdad region. Although each opus takes place in a specific historical and geographical context, narrative arcs appear over the same period: the Third Crusade (Assassin's Creed, Altaïr's Chronicles, Bloodlines), the Renaissance (Assassin's Creed II, Discovery, Brotherhood, Revelations, Identity ), the American Revolution (Assassin's Creed III, Liberation, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Pirates, Rogue), revolutions (Unity (French Revolution), Syndicate (industrial revolution), Chronicles (Russian Revolution)), Antiquity ( Origins, Odyssey) and the Viking Age (Valhalla), the last three games forming a trilogy on mythology
