SIde scroller games are one of the most love genre by most of the people, that's mostly because of the simplicity and also complexity, because the developer can experiment almost every other genre with side scrollers genre, you can combine action RPG with side scrolling or adventure or survival horror with side scrolling games..

But We should not forget the most famous side scrolling mashup is metroidvania, basically Castlevania and Metroid both classic games are the pioneer which created this genre called Metroidvania, and also the reason behind so many exellent indie games of this generation..

But phantom blade stand on a very confusing middle ground for me, The Phantom blade does many good things but the some of the most generic and useless things are also included,,

+++++ 🎮 Gameplay: +++++

The phantom blade gameplay is stage based which is far away from being a metroidvania game, and stage are basically 5 minute or even less longer, so the base of the game is just small stages which is a huge let down to be honest, The kind of combat this game is offering has no place for such a small stages, if you play or seen this game you already be aware of the combat of this game is combos based with impressive moves, and the game make sure that you are using everything, every combo has to be used for a full impact to take advantage of the multiplier damage, or to break enemy shield or do lots of damage etc.. these are all requirement for you to complete your combo which mean every encounter you are going to face you must have to use your combo, and that's the problem..

There is no much creativity in the combat system behind selecting flashing moves and pressing the same skill button again and again, The entire combat system is just to select skills and then smash the combo button and and repeat until the smallest stage is over..

in the beginning of the game it feel great and this is not a big issue but as you keep playing and finishing these small stage with your over power skills and doing the same thing again and again this will eventually become a really generic and boring game, you just doing the same skills or same combos in a 5-minute long stage fighting lower level enemies, you don't have to put any thought in it you just have to smash the same skill button, there is no stake not depth of combo..

I hope I'm making sense if you ever play DMC or any beat himup games like Street or Rage 4 you might understand what I'm getting into here,,

The second big noticing thing about this game is it's a online game which mean there are usual cheep limitation, the first and most obvious thing is that you have limited amount of energy, which is one of the most stupidest thing in mobile RTS games, and it doesn't end here, just like RTS games there is are summon in this game which to be honest if they didn't add this summons, the game still would not be any difference, and just like usual RTS marking tactics they give u so many free summon in the start of the game so that ur over power, until your faced with the reality and that game is just trash and it giving you free stuff to hook you up so later you pay to get over power again..

But phantom blade is not RTS game, it's in fact side scrolling action rpg game, but still it has same usual shit in it, I understand the dev need to make money but I don't entertain the idea to make a game and force people to enjoy it and then put a pay wall to lure money out of the player base..

This game could easily been a premium game without all the online garbage in it, and still people would love to buy it including myself, but unfortunately just like many energy base games it's not worth spending time, because phantom blade its just like games where you end up playing for months and then you can't progress unless your willing to pay,

👍 Pros: Exellent story with amazing but some time not so good voice acting..

👍 Pros: excellent art style and atmosphere with beautiful soundtrack..

👍 Pros: Good game play but lack of enemy variety or require any type of skills..

👎 Cons: stage are basically less then 5 minute long..

👎 Cons: no exploring like metroidvania just generics hidden path which requires player to play the same stage again and also cost energy..

👎 Cons: combat with no depth other then just clicking skill icons, the damage is based on your level and your skill level with summons damage included, and all this makes the game just RTS game with Illinoisan of combat but in reality if your higher level you will win even if you press auto combat, and if your lower level them you can't win, this all make all these skill feel like flashy animation since the player skill doesn't matter how good he is but what matter is how much level your hero is,,,
