In a landmark decision, the San Mateo Superior Court judge has ruled in favor of Krafton in the much-debated copyright dispute with NetEase Games. The five-year-long legal saga, stemming from Krafton's allegations that NetEase copied its ideas for the popular battle royale genre, has finally reached a resolution.

The court found that NetEase breached their contract by failing to adhere to settlement terms, including neglecting to change certain game elements as agreed upon. Despite this victory for Krafton, the court did not fully endorse the requested $65 million in damages. Nevertheless, an undisclosed sum in liquidated damages was awarded to Krafton, underscoring the court's acknowledgment of the breach.
This legal battle traces back to May 2018 when Krafton initiated a lawsuit against NetEase, accusing the Chinese game maker of closely imitating the realistic style of Krafton's battle royale games, Knives Out and Rules of Survival. The dispute took an interesting turn in March 2019 when the parties reached a private contract to settle their differences. However, by 2019, Krafton claimed that NetEase had violated the terms, leading to a new trial commencing on May 1, 2023, in a US court.
Krafton's assertion that NetEase strategically launched free-to-play titles to gain an advantage over the impending release of PUBG Mobile in 2018 added complexity to the case. While the court did not entirely endorse the $65 million damages, the acknowledgment of a breach and the subsequent award of liquidated damages underscore the gravity of NetEase's actions.
This legal victory follows a pattern for Krafton, which has previously pursued legal action against Garena in January of the previous year, claiming that Garena copied parts of PUBG in their games Free Fire and Free Fire Max. Krafton had also sued Epic Games in 2018 over similar allegations concerning Fortnite but later dropped the lawsuit in the same year.
The resolution of the Krafton-NetEase dispute serves as a reminder of the legal complexities in the gaming industry and the importance of upholding intellectual property rights. As the dust settles on this long-standing conflict, the gaming community watches with interest to see how this decision may influence future legal dynamics within the industry.

Krafton & NetEase in Court Over PUBG Copyright Dispute
Krafton and NetEase have appeared in court for an ongoing lawsuit in which Krafton claims that two of NetEase's battle royale games, Knives Out and Rules of Survival, infringe on their PUBG copyright. Although the case was originally settled in 2019, Krafton claimed that NetEase violated the terms of the settlement in 2023. In response, NetEase admitted to the violation but claimed that it was unintentional and had already been voluntarily rectified. The ongoing legal action centers around a specific term in the agreement and whether it was applied in the correct context.

I hate netease!!!
Netease always makes some really good projects for them only to be abandoned after the trailer or to make an beta on Chinese and then to never update it again. Nobody wants another town building game or PUBG ripoff. Code T ,eternal frontier, fading city and more projects just get abandoned out of nothing. Happily this didn't happen for project bloodstrike. The last games i enjoyed were: Lost light which had an really good atmosphere and music and everything.I love it absolutely. But i can't even play a second because either it's pay to win or i get wall banged everytime i spawn.
