Focus on how you character brings value to the team.
Shields do more than take damage. They can also be used to deplete enemy ammo and attack when they are reloading on a flank.
Shields also reveal enemy locations due to auto fire.

Yes. Yellow is the shield you earn with points by playing ranked. Red are obtained via weekly task, and blue is event Shields. All provide the same benefits.
