It's been a long time sinceI played survivor horror games but now, I can comfortably say Heavenly Dust 2 has rekindled my interest by returning to the genre's roots. With engaging gameplay and clever puzzles challenging players to conserve resources in a zombie-infested world, this sequel surpasses its predecessor with refined combat, a wider variety of enemies, and exceptional world design.
The intricate environments of Heaven Dust 2, filled with hidden items and challenging puzzles, make exploration a delightful endeavor, accentuated by its unique overhead isometric perspective. Navigating carefully, players uncover out-of-reach items and contraptions, adding satisfaction when they return with the necessary tools to conquer initial challenges.
The game's atmosphere is immersive, featuring dark, detailed environments and a quiet soundscape that accentuates zombie moans. Top-notch sound effects enhance the satisfaction of combat, with the gruesome sounds of torn flesh heightening the experience.
Combat in Heaven Dust 2 is simple yet rewarding, with strategic depth. Starting with a pistol and dagger, players expand their arsenal to include shotguns, submachine guns, and various grenades, each with unique uses. Heaven Dust 2 is a Horror-Adventure Indie Game made by One Gruel Studio and will release on Jan 6th. We had a chance to try it out during the closed media playtest, and it feels great.
Like the first title, Heaven Dust 2 was greatly inspired by the classic horror game Resident Evil, especially the early titles. The game has minimal inventory space, iconic green & red herbs, documents everywhere, puzzles to solve, and of course, herds of zombies hunting the protagonist. It is a love letter to the old school horror game enthusiasts and brings them back to when they struggled through Racoon City.
