“ᴀᴛᴛᴇɴᴛɪᴏɴ, ᴇᴀʀᴛʜ ᴄʀᴇᴀᴛᴜʀᴇs!“
2005’s “Destroy all Humans” is a third person, semi open world, action-adventure game created by THQ Nordic, at the time simply “THQ”. You play as an overly aggressive Clint Eastwood/ Jack Nicholson toned alien named Crypto (short for Cryptosporidium 137) that has a deep seated hatred for humanity, and a passion for making things go boom! You are sent on a recuse mission but ultimately take it upon yourself, to teach humanity a lesson.
Unfortunately “Destroy all Humans“ was met with mixed reviews, not only from its a original release in 05 but its re-release in 2020. So, the people have spoken, right? The game at best is, decent? Right? In this article I will be breaking down why I think the “Destroy All Humans“ franchise could reinvent itself into a mobile juggarnaut, so we can get back to taking over humanity.

2005 had some incredible titles come out during that time period. From the first installment of God of War to the third installment of Devil May Cry, it’s safe to say that to really stand out during that time, you needed to be dense in not only story but gameplay mechanics. “Destroy All Humans“ with its simplistic gameplay and story paired with its semi“ open world environment had a hard time competing against larger titles like Grand Theft Auto for example. It’s “master of none“ approach doesn’t do well with bigger studio console focused gaming.
BUT, would perform ten times better in short form mobile gaming systems. Its simplicity is its mobile selling point. Its lack of over the top detail and complexity is perfect for the mobile gaming audience. If there was a way to keep missions or objectives compelling and short (10-15 minutes) that would make for a perfect hostile takeover experience!

The pacing of mobile games is very important. There are numerous changes that are required to convert a larger platform title into a mobile experience. With that being said, early 2000s games were pretty slow paced in comparsion to games of today, and for our purposes thats exactly what we are looking for! The UI itself is already simple and low profile. The controls are easy and don’t leave anything to the imagination. The conversion to mobile seems like it would be a no brainer!
ᴄᴏɴᴠᴇʀᴛɪɴɢ ᴛᴏ ɴɪɴᴛᴇɴᴅᴏ sᴡɪᴛᴄʜ, sʜᴏᴜʟᴅ ᴘᴜᴛ ᴍᴏʙɪʟᴇ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴏɴᴠᴇʀsᴀᴛɪᴏɴ
I know that it’s not an exact science across the board, but I like to believe that if it can be played on a Nintendo Switch, it can and should be playable on a cellphone. To further prove that argument, I've played (attempted to play) “Wolfenstein“ on Switch and was met with a very terrible gaming experience. Not everything that works on console works on Switch, and not everything that works on Switch will be entertaining enough for console.
The Nintendo Switch catalog should be used to see what mobile gaming could and should be, and guess what’s currently on Nintendo Switch. Most of the Switch catalog is made up of glorified mobile games, and some titles that shouldn’t be there (definitely Wolfenstein). What I’m getting at is, “Destroy all Humans” works perfectly on the Switch…which means it should work perfectly on a phone.

Love the idea! Imagine blasting humans on your phone during lunch break.

Author likedThat’s what I’m saying! I’m currently writing an article for why “Tak and the Power of Juju” should rebrand itself as a mobile game. Stay tuned☺️
