That said, if you’re looking for a title you can play for hours at a time, you might want to look elsewhere. Cozy Islands is a crafting and building game about rebuilding a series of islands. Resources on the islands are pretty scarce, but they automatically refresh every ninety minutes. I found Cozy Islands to be most enjoyable when I treated it like a semi-idle game; I’d work on a few building projects, put my phone down for a while, and then stock up resources when I picked it up again.

Magic Chronicle is the latest in a long line of idle auto-battler gacha games that are essentially just clones of AFK Arena with nothing new to offer. The presentation in this one is high-quality enough, if generic, and there’s at least a lot of different modes to keep players distracted. But in the end, there’s just not a hook here that’s likely to pull in players long-term, especially if insane levels of pay-to-win monetization put you off.
