We created a hero based on one of your ideas!

Good day, everyone! Hope you guys have been working hard at collecting tons of Stars and Novas in-game :D

Over the past months, we’ve been collecting design ideas from talented Party players who are eager to help add new content to the game. These players can hail from different countries like China, Philippines, Thailand, etc, so depending on where you're from you may not have seen certain designs until now. From heroes to maps, we vet all of these ideas carefully before deciding which of them would contribute greatly to the game.

One of these ideas was inspired by a legendary Japanese animal called the Kamaitachi, which is based on a cute and tiny breed of weasels. Originally designed by Nyx and sketched by Ajsee, we found this concept intriguing and decided to collaborate with these two players to create a new hero, Kamiki Yuri! We’ve been working hard on her development over the past few months, and now we’re delighted to announce that the artwork is almost finalized! That being said, we're still far from perfecting her hero. Right now, though, we wanna share with you her conceptualization and design process.

When first conceptualizing this hero, we imagined Kamiki Yuri to be a lively, agile gal with a strong sense of curiosity. After taking a look at Ajsee’s sketches, the biggest challenge we faced was to transform this character into a Flash Party hero while retaining her original style as much as possible. As usual, we decided to break these down into smaller tasks and work on the changes bit by bit.

First, we adjusted Kamiki Yuri’s color combination to look brighter and bolder so that she would align with the game’s aesthetics. Next, we looked at modifying Yuri’s size and her other features that would leave her more impressionable on players. For example, we extracted elements from the colors and shadows, and also adjusted Kamiki Yuri’s appearance to suit her personality.

Since we decided to base our design on the Kamaitachi, we wanted to incorporate some of its features into Kamiki Yuri’s looks. Thus, we rounded out her facial features to resemble that of the Japanese weasel, and smoothened her facial outline as well.

Of course, Nyx was always kept in the loop and helped in our decision making during Kamiki Yuri’s development. Although we created 3 hero designs based on 3 different ages, we followed Nyx’s recommendation to go with her 22 year-old variant, in line with Nyx’s original concept which had her at that age. What do you think of our choice?

The next element to tackle is Kamiki Yuri’s weapon: a battery-powered fan called Tachi. Though this is meant to be her highlight feature, we actually struggled to fit it into the original artwork. Considering the difficulty of modeling and how it might affect your gaming experience, we revised the design of Tachi numerous times and debated how it should connect to the battery. There were numerous other designs that were scrapped without actual drafts.

We had a couple of interesting ideas for Kamiki Yuri’s fan: one was an old-fashioned fan designed like a Japanese-style windmill, and the other was a high-tech portable electrical fan. We even created many versions for Tachi’s handle to make it look like a gun grip. After discussing with Nyx, we finalized the version as shown below.
