DQM: The Dark Prince is the new release from Square Enix and opens another page of the popular game series Dragon Quest Monsters. In this one it tackles the concept of monster gathering and fighting, thus allowing the player to assemble a team of more than 500 monsters. If you are a fan of monster-wrangling games then you will be happy to know that this title delivers this in addition to deep and traditional RPG mechanics.
One of the most appealing aspects of DQM: The strength of the Dark Prince is in concept and background, and integrating it into the overarching Dragon Quest universe very well. The main character of the game has to go through the quests that would show that he is worthy, and, meeting various creatures on the way, one can collect them and develop them. If you’re a fan of Dragon Quest, the monster designs follow the game’s formula with characters that fans would recognise and new monsters that breathe new life into the game.
The main area of gameplay consists in battle scenarios, which differ in complexity and require thinking due to the choice of the monsters and their abilities. Even forming a great team needs to consider the skills, abilities, and compatibility of them all, monsters, which makes it not only for those who are interested only in leveling up.
Visually, DQM: This is not a let down, The Dark Prince. This game presents fantastically designed graphics and smooth character designs which makes traveling and fights enjoyable, at least in terms of aesthetics. It follows the Dragon Quest style but keeps the player immersed with nostalgic feelings with improved graphics.
On the other hand, some players may the gaming progression as being slightly steep, so as to form the right team in the later levels of the game. There is a possibility to experience moments of stagnation, although this can be attributed to the fact that players start with a new part and there is a time gap between the two parts.
Overall, DQM: The Dark Prince is quite a solid RPG where the major emphasis is made on monsters’ taming and battles. For the fans of the Dragon Quest series or just people who like RPG games I’d like to mention it is a must-play game.
