Harvest Moon: In Home Sweet Home, you will be able to get the real sense of farming simulation with the colorful graphics that are associated with this type of games. Fans of the Harvest Moon series will feel right at home as the game stays true to the core elements that made the series a favorite among players: farming, the development of relations with people in the country, and creation of comfortable living with focus on sustainability in the rural village.
The game begins with players buying a piece of land and cultivating it, which include farming, ranching and later constructing their own farm house. The farming mechanics are simple to get accustomed to with an emphasis of planting, watering, and reaping the crops. One can upgrade tools, enhance the farm and get to plant new crops and rear new animals, which gives a good feeling. The work on the farm is relaxed on a day-to-day basis and one feels a sense of achievement as one sees the fruits of hard work and team effort in form of the crop yields.
I also want to define that Home Sweet Home is focused on community as one of its main values. Friendly NPCs with whom one can develop various relationships including marriage, as well as the ability to have children and construct houses are present in the game environment that is set in a cheerful village. Every character is much different from the other, and by the time you get accustomed to the various characters, the village feels like part of your story.
There is also a very general freedom when it comes to how a player wants to set up his farm and house. This gives it a sort of feeling that no other person is experiencing another’s version of it, but it is in fact, yours.
Yet, it also has certain unresolved flaws in terms of the game’s pacing. It is possible to get bored after some time especially on the sequences of tasks which are repetitive and the changes in the duration of the in-game seasons are also slow. Despite this, Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home reflects the essence of the series and provides a comfortable and relaxed gameplay which will be appreciated by all lovers of farming simulators.
