Yesterday Ubisoft and Massive Entertainmente released the Secrets of the Spires expansion and a substantial update to Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Among other things, the update added native support for PS5 Pro via a new mandatory graphics mode, which unfortunately would seem rather disappointing and even worse than the base PS5 version. Net of an increase in native resolution rendering and more stable performance, several gamers have noticed on Sony's mid-generation console the game now exhibits a pronounced shimmering effect (a flickering or flickering of textures), particularly with regard to vegetation, which as you may know abounds in the game's scenarios.  The new preset is mandatory on PS5 Pro
As we can see in the video below from the GamingTech channel, the effect is very pronounced and making a direct comparison, the PS5 version looks paradoxically better despite the lower power. The idea is that these problems could stem from poor use of PSSR instead of FSR, with far too aggressive upscaling that would have caused these artifacts.

After all, similar problems had also been noted by Digital Foundry with the PS5 Pro version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, with tech enthusiasts precisely pointing the finger at a disappointing implementation of the console's proprietary upscaling technology.
Even in the case of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, moreover, gamers have no choice: once the update is installed, on PS5 Pro the new “60 FPS Quality Mode” graphics mode with PSSR replaces the old ones in its entirety. The hope clearly is that the developers at Massive Entertainment will quickly resolve the problems encountered.
