nActivision is reportedly set to introduce major changes and bring back fan-favorite content to make Verdansk's return to Call of Duty: Warzone a success. This effort by the company behind Call of Duty aims to turn around the difficulties the game has faced since the launch of Black Ops 6, specifically its second season where the game has only received stability improvements.
Despite the initial release of new content with Black Ops 6’s first season – including new modes, weapons, and the Area 99 map for Warzone Resurgence – the game has experienced a decline in player interest and engagement due to its poor performance and an overwhelming number of hackers. As a result, the developer has prioritized stability improvements throughout Warzone Season 2 and its mid-season update, with plans to refocus on introducing new content in a future season.
According to well-known Call of Duty insider CharlieIntel on Twitter, Activision is reportedly planning to “go all out” with content to support the highly anticipated return of Verdansk to Warzone, which is expected to arrive with Season 3, primarily to address the game’s “bad state” over the recent few months. Additionally, the post mentions that the focus on reviving the fan-favorite map is one of the main reasons Warzone has lacked any major content updates in Season 2.
Warzone Season 3 Set to Allegedly Bring Back Plenty of Nostalgic ContentAlthough Activision has yet to officially reveal its plans for Warzone's Season 3, leaks following the Season 2 Reloaded update have continued to surface, hinting at the return of nostalgic content to accompany Verdansk’s comeback, such as iconic weapons and Operators from the original Warzone version. Reportedly, this update includes fan-favorite weapons such as the Grau 5.56, CR-56 AMAX, Kilo 141, and HDR. It also brings back the controversial Roze Operator, along with other beloved characters like Mace and Hudson, all from the 2020 version of Modern Warfare’s original map.
With Warzone experiencing a rough patch – marked by a surge in hackers, stability issues, and a lack of fresh content – Activision appears to be focusing on revitalizing the experience that originally captivated fans. By bringing back Verdansk, one of the most beloved maps for many, along with other iconic content, the company seeks to reignite interest in the game. Additionally, this move could be aimed at winning back fans who left after Verdansk was removed and replaced with content from recent Call of Duty integrations, ultimately hoping to reverse Warzone’s declining player count and engagement.
