Adventure, RPG, and psychological horror features wonderfully combined into one, the players will embark on a deep sea fishing adventure which is quite haunting. Developed by Black Salt games, this indie title turns out to be more than just fishing simulator-it is a suspenseful story-driven adventure filled with mystery and Lovecraftian horror.
You play the role of a fisherman sent to a far-off archipelago to fish, upgrade his boat, and discover the secrets of the water. Engaging gameplay involves: daytime fishing and exploration, nighttime survival in this environment-dark activities with strange creatures lurking around.
Just beautiful: a kind of minimalistic imagery mixed with atmospheric visuals that capture very well the kind of unsettling tone. Soundtrack; everything sounds fitting for quite an isolation-and-mystery atmosphere. Everything from excellent mechanics-intuitive fishing mini-games-resource management to rewarding progression in upgrading your boat and deciphering newer regions has been nicely appointed and developed.
The story is what truly makes DREDGE special. Worlds rich with cryptic NPCs, lots of scattered notes, and environmental clues that can allude to a much larger and sinister truth. Generally, horror is subtle, but the very effective psychological tension has been relied on rather than jump scares.
The one downside most would probably be that the pacing is slow, especially in those opening hours. That's okay if you enjoy atmospheric investigation and dynamic, mystery-driving narratives; otherwise, it's a must-play for DREDGE. It combines fishing mechanics and cosmic horror, leaving an indelible mark upon the experience.
