HAAK introduces the gamers with a post-apocalyptic universe — a confined space where the only chance to defeat the enemy is to have a fast reaction and coordinated actions. Taking place in a stunning isolation, the game welcomes a player into an incredible story of mystery, vigour and deceit. Play consists of exploration and the improving of a number of areas, including problem solving and fight scenes with a platform and action twist.
Haak, the main character, uses a sort of a gun that also serves as a grappling hook as well as an interface to influence the world. This mechanic is arguably the second most important aspect of the game’s design and enhances both exploration and combat. Controls are fine, nice and sensitive, allowing for a good feeling of the gamer interacting with the game environment and the enemies. From a purely visual perspective, the movie HAAK is a convet. Graphics’ art style are pixels and modern concept that reached to an entirely new generation of video games. This can be easily inferred due to the fact that the environments are well developed and each location presents new obstacles as well as hidden elements to find.
The sound edition works very well with the video in the sense that a suspenseful music accompanies the scenes. In my view, this is one of the game’s major assets – the ability to narrate the story. This makes its telling more deliberate since many of the stories are revealed in fragments that are littered throughout the world. That will just be stimulating enough to make you want to invest in the game but not so much that it will overshadow the basic game play. But in my opinion the game also has shortcomings.
The apparent increases in the level of difficulty may also beimesa at sometimes particularly in the later level. Some puzzles are wee bit off the top, which causes trial and error which should not be there in a game of such calibre. In any rate, if action-platformers are the kind of games that excite you, HAAK will continue to be an engaging experience.
Pros:
✔ Highly Engaging Post-Apocalyptic Setting. - The mystery enriches this world, thus creating a truly immersing atmosphere.
✔ Genuinely New Grappling Hook Mechanic. - Genuinely spice-up both exploration and combat.
✔ Having Smooth Controls - Very satisfying movement and combat because of responsive gameplay.
✔ Pixel-Art Aesthetic, Very Modernized Retro Graphics with Great Environments.
✔ Strong Storytelling - It has a beautiful story unfolding well through its environmental storytelling and hidden lore.
✔ Atmospheric Sound Design - Suspenseful music enhances the game's tension while being more immersive.
Cons:
✖ Massive Difficulty Curve - Later levels can get quite frustrating because of the very high challenge.
✖ Some trial and error puzzling at times. - These puzzles often require you to guess rather than figure them out.
✖ Could Leave Some Story Fragments Unattractive - Some players might find the indirect storytelling method lacking.
FINAL VERDICT
fascinating action-platformer experience, wonderfully blended with exploration, combat, and most importantly, puzzles built into its post-apocalyptic world. A little bit tougher at times than expected, mind you, for fans of this genre, HAAK should resonate with them for not only its tight mechanics but also its great ambient atmosphere. This is an automatic endorsement for nonlinear stories and skill-based gameplay by HAAK.
