A game that made me a fan of card strategy game and made me went out looking for it, only find out that there wasn't anything better than this one, imo. (Tried Reverse1999 as well, and it wasn't good enough for me, since Morimens was hundred times better for my taste).
This game is quite heavy in strategy part.
Basically, you are given with 5 costs (called arithmetica cost in game) to play your hands.
But as you proceed through the map for main chapters, you are given with a orison, which grants a special effect to a card that you can play, relics, which is basically a passive buff items that sometimes comes with a price, and you have learn to grab a right orison and right relics that will assist your team to maximize its potential.
Both can be purchased with a currency named Black Sigil, which is exclusively earned and used in a map. It can be earned by picking it up, killling an enemy or by selling your command cards.
It also has 4 realms.
Chaos, which is a special realm that can make a party with a different realm unlike the other realms, also specializing in gaining S-energy that is used to activate a Posse, which is a special ability that MC uses to support the team. A great team for starters, as it comes with high death resistance, which allows you to survive a lethal hit.
Aequor, a team specializing in attacking enenies with tentacles. You can strenghthen and/or summon more tentacles for multi-hit that can do tremendous amount of damage.
Caro, a team that has a special stack called Embryo fusion. By devouring the stack they have, they earn lot of effects for their command cards, that can easily turn the table of the game.
Ultra, a team that saves the first card played during the turn into hyperdimension, giving you an extra turn once the cards are filled, providing you with a chance to nuke the enemy with the cards that you have saved up.
You might think, okay, that is lot of strategy there, nerd. But that's not all.
Each chapter of the story provides you with a special effect card, resonance, that can be upgraded as you proceed through the chapter, giving you lot more options and strategy to play with. And trying to clear all of the challenges it gives you for extra reward was also really fun with all those things to play with.
Also, each character can be Awakened, giving them a special card with powerful effect that lasts entire battle.
There are also things called symptoms, that mostly costs you an HP for a certain effect, which can be a game changer when played correctly at a right time.
Game gets updated with new system and characters get rebalanced every so often, that there really isn't much of a thing that you can call it a 'tier-list'. I mean, sure, there are some characters that can do some crazy things, but it really isn't about a single OP character, it is about building a team with right cogs to make the team work. Even the most end game content can be cleared with a party made out of 'trash-tier' when characters are viewed individually, but makes a great team when combined together.
However, various of strategy doesn't really mean that it is all good, since it kind of forces you to learn everything about almost every character and learn how to play each party to work out your team, which means it becomes really time consuming with lot of things to learn.
PVP, which is played real time, has a different set of skills for the character than usual, making it double work when you are going to enjoy full content. I personally dislike PVP itself, but that real time card strategy system was actually quite fun and thrilling to play with.
Events are fun at first play, since you have to actually play with given sets of relics and a special effect cards for the event to fight the boss, and you have to play with right counter party for it as well, if you are going for high level map.
But once you clear it, you'll just skip them until event ends, so it may feel little bit dull and repetitive. But I honestly find it to be better this way, since fighting it once is fun, but if I had to fight it everyday with a clutch every time, I think I'll drop out with too much stress.
It is really generous to not just a beginner, but even as a player who's like in middle of content, game still feels very generous... except with the energy to do dungeons and events, which I find it generally all across Chinese games.
Gacha rates are not bad, with 30 pulls for pity (5 pulls in a roll, so 6 resets), and 90 pulls for guaranteed pick up.
But you do have to roll for not just characters, but for a wheel of destiny, a special card that a characters equip to earn special effects.
It does require a lot of dupes to max out both character and wheel of destiny, but you really don't have to rush it, as a single pick up banner lasts almost a month, as well as being quite generous with gacha currency.
Also, you can exchage uncap material for character/wheel of destiny every month, which can be used on a limited characters as well, and I find this to be very, very good.
As for the story, I really love this lovecraft vibe of the story with all of the ordeals and sadness, madness, death and life struggle with everything, but an AI translation ruins alot of immersion.
I hope this game gets an official EN, JP or KR translation one day, so that I can actually enjoy it depth once again.
I really recommend this game if you are interested in card strategy games.
Even if you are not interested, give it a go just for a day or two. I also was never a fan of card strategy, but this game was just so good for me, that it made me a fan of it.
