I initially downloaded Tribe NINE because of its Danganronpa-inspired art style, and now I'm suddenly 21 hours in. As a Danganronpa fan, curiosity got the best of me when I saw its design.
During my first session I was drawn in by the game's execution. The story, ARPG elements, and the anime-like super sports transition ⚾ made for a unique and engaging experience. I’ve tried other action RPGs like Honkai Impact 3rd and Zenless Zone Zero, but they felt somewhat repetitive in a way that didn’t fully click with me. Tribe NINE, on the other hand, offered a complete RPG experience, with full maps for exploration rather than having quest-based instances that you get from a quest counter.
While I’m enjoying the game and plan to see it through to completion, I give it 4/5 stars. The combat could use more variety. If the devs happen to see this, adding additional movesets (such as holding the action button for different attack types) would make battles feel more dynamic. Right now, even with my characters at level 30+, combat often boils down to a rinse-and-repeat loop that starts to feel stale.
That said, Tribe NINE has been a refreshing and unexpectedly immersive experience. Even with its flaws - the world, gameplay, and storytelling have kept me engaged, and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds.
