Empyrean Game Review

Empyrean is a text-based highly involving adventure, based on an exciting universe of plots, advanced technologies, and individual choices. In this game the player is in charge of managing the experimental “Empyrean”, by overcoming numerous political and technological challenges, tactical battles and full on combat. The plot specific to Empyrean is truly the title’s crowning jewel, as it is well written, complex, and, most importantly, replayable.
It offers players the decisions that make the storyline, so the player can determine what happens next on the game. From adjusting the feathers of your motorbike to running risk negotiations or mere survival every choice shapes the world. The game enchants with a clearly defined steampunk atmosphere where machines, inventions and determination of people intertwine in an interesting manner.
Many seem to appreciate Empyrean’s writing, and this is one of Empyrean’s areas of comparative advantage. It is this sort of description which is coupled with action, making the narrative as colourful and compelling as it is realistic. You are provided with motives, history and things hidden behind the characters with whom you interact with this makes it much more interesting. Also, there is free-flowing progress, meaning that the game is different each time, and players actually participate; something that is usually missing in some games.
Nonetheless, being a text-based game, it may be uninteresting to all players who are interested in action or colorful games with high-intensity actions. This is perfect for Empyrean as most of its elements revolve around telling a story and the much slower and much more focused pace than other games or interactive novels can be a nice change.
Pros and Cons of Empyrean
Pros
✔ Deep and well-written narrative-The story is really intricately designed and immersive. You can't experience it once; it has great replayability that makes each time unique.
✔ Player-driven choices - The decisions shape the game world differently for each player outcome when viewing personal storytelling.
✔ Offers a rich steampunk setting-The game universe is richly detailed with lots of advanced technologies, inventions, and political intrigue.
✔ Strong Character Development-interactions of characters with each other reveal motives and histories, making the world feel alive.
✔ Immersive gameplay-in interesting text-attractive playing environment, descriptive writing does seem to draw people in.
✔ Freedom of Progression-There is no set experience; everything- each decision-made alters the experience to keep it interesting every time, and increase its replay value.
Cons
✖does not suit action-oriented players-missing the sights and sounds of exciting action and real-time results, and may not enjoy that style of play.
✖ Heavy Reading-Because the entire game is composed of text, it won't be appealing to someone who likes optically told stories.
✖ Slower than normal-The slow-moving pace with a tale-driven style is expected to feel slow when compared to the usual RBGS.
✖ Limited gameplay variety-Yes, choices matter, but ultimately all that will add up means reading or making a choice or both.
Thus, Empyrean is most definitely a treasure trove for all the lovers of IF/RPGs who want to be plunged into the vortex of detailed narrative, multi-choice decisions, and a well-developed world. It is a conceptually stimulating experience of provoking that requires time and desire to acquire.
