Days Gone is considered a great game by many fans despite being underrated, and here’s why:
1. Deep Story and Character Development
At its core,
Days Gone tells an emotional and personal story about loss, survival, and loyalty. Deacon St. John’s journey from a gruff biker to a more emotionally vulnerable man is gradual and believable. The story isn't just about zombies (or Freakers)—it’s about love, grief, brotherhood, and redemption.
2. Immersive Open World
The world of Oregon is beautifully crafted—forests, snowy mountains, and abandoned towns are packed with detail. The dynamic weather and day-night cycle affect gameplay and immersion. Riding through the wilderness on a motorcycle feels cinematic.
3. Motorcycle Gameplay
Your bike is more than a vehicle—it’s your lifeline. Managing fuel, upgrading your ride, and maintaining it adds a survivalist layer to exploration. It also builds a bond between you and the world, since your bike is your only way to cover large distances safely.
4. Freaker Hordes
One of the most intense parts of the game is facing massive hordes. These aren't just typical zombies—they're fast, aggressive, and react to your actions. Taking on a horde requires planning, traps, and guts. It’s one of the most unique and thrilling mechanics in any open-world game.
5. Underrated But Ambitious
It launched with bugs and some rough edges, which hurt its reputation. But after patches and updates, it became much more polished. Sadly, critics were harsh early on, and it never fully recovered in the spotlight. Still, fans appreciate its ambition, depth, and heart.
6. Great Voice Acting and Soundtrack
Sam Witwer did an amazing job as Deacon, bringing emotion and intensity to the role. The voice acting across the board is strong, and the music adds tension or melancholy at just the right moments.

If you like games with strong narratives, open-world exploration, and intense combat,
Days Gone really delivers—it just didn’t get the praise it deserved at launch. Did you play it already or planning to try it out?
