STARSEED is a gacha game that somehow manages to take an interesting premise—a world where you, the Architect, are the last hope for humanity—and turn it into a soulless PvP slog with none of the emotional depth or character connections you’d expect. If you’re looking for a game where the devs actively go out of their way to make sure you don’t feel invested in the world or its characters, congratulations—you’ve found it.

Story issues:
The story is weak at best, nonexistent at worst. Unlike games like NIKKE, which weave compelling tales of survival and sacrifice, STARSEED’s plot feels like an afterthought. The Proxyans (the game’s equivalent of Nikkes) barely interact with the Architect in any meaningful way, and when they do, it’s painfully clear the writers went out of their way to ensure there’s zero romantic tension—or even basic chemistry. Most bond stories hammer home the message: "You’re just some guy they tolerate, at best."

No Emotional Connections:
The most strange thing about STARSEED is how aggressively it rejects player engagement. The devs created a blank-slate self-insert protagonist (the Architect) only to make sure none of the Proxyans show even subtle romantic interest. It’s not just that the relationships are platonic—it’s that the game goes out of its way to remind you they’re platonic, as if the writers are actively making sure players don't misinterpret something as affection. Compare this to NIKKE, where bond stories—whether romantic or not—actually make you care about the characters.

Devs don't care:
Shift Up (NIKKE’s devs) listen to their community and adjust the game based on feedback. STARSEED’s devs? Sure, they do Q&A on livestream, but don't really care about anything other than PvP concerns. The way the Architect and Proxyans are written feels like a deliberate "fuck you" to anyone hoping for meaningful relationships. The promotional material (on x(twitter) and Discord) suggests connections between the Architect and Proxyans (I guess because they think that will make people want to play), but this in no way matches the actual game.

PVP:
The entire game is built around PvP. If you’re the type who enjoys min-maxing stats for leaderboard dominance, maybe you’ll find something here. But if you’re looking for storytelling, emotional weight, or even basic waifu appeal? Look elsewhere.

Final Verdict
STARSEED is a cynical, emotionally barren PvP machine disguised as a gacha game. The story is weak, the Proxyans have no meaningful connection to the player, and the devs seem determined to ensure you never feel invested in their world (because... reasons?).

Yeah, this review captures my feelings about the game perfectly. The stunning art and the promise of an immersive story sucked me in initially. But you're totally right - the devs don't care. I actually had a question answered in the QA livestream once (about an oath system) and got super excited for a bit thinking that by answering a question that they actually cared. Then I realized the story’s design—where Proxyans show zero romantic (or even subtle) affection toward the Architect (ie the player self-insert you're meant to identify with) —is deliberate. They wanted the Proxyans to be largely indifferent to the Architect - I suppose it's the way they think about the character (even though they want you to identify with that character as a self-insert). Why the devs chose this path, I have no idea. It kills motivation for anyone who isn't really into PvP. I kinda agree with what you said that it feels like a “fuck you” to players. Why hate the people you expect to spend on your game? smh Honestly, I do still lurk on Discord because I really want to believe that devs will improve the game (deluded, I know), but I have finally deleted it. I deleted it when I realised that every new event was neither fun nor engaging. Each new story had another cool Proxyan who, was somewhere between indifference to only vaguely liking the architect. I decided then to stick to games that actually make me happy by devs who don't seem to hate me (weird idea, but happy people spend money lol) I really should write a review. I mean, I spent as long replying as it would take me to write a review lol

This is a fair review. I'm glad I saw it before I got too far in. I think I'll drop off now and find something else. I have a habit of sticking with games too long even after I stop enjoying them
