Refreshing and very fun…
I’m not one to write reviews on an iPhone game, but this game stands so far out from the bunch I had to go out of my way to say:
This game is the ANTITHESIS of every ‘popular’ game on IOS;
It is completely original in design, it currently doesn’t ask for ANY of your money (no IAP or Ads), and on top of all that it’s genuinely fun!
The game pits you and your new ‘AI’ robot companion against an onslaught of hostile robots.
Fighting mission to mission arena style, the campaign has you and your clunky teammate eliminate the opposing force of ever increasingly powerful bots. With each mission you accomplish, you earn not only gear but also ‘brainpower’ for your bot, allowing you to upgrade its battle capabilities, improve its mobility, and more.
Aside from the campaign, there are few other game modes to continue the carnage. Most notably is the mode in which your robot must take on the enemy bots all on its own. You must leverage your bot’s brain power and the synergies between the different gear you choose to equip on them in order to succeed. I see a lot of potential for emergent gameplay in the bot only game mode.
If the developers do intend on fully integrating an actual progress-able AI learning model to the companion bot, we might see gameplay completely unique to this game.
Now one thing to note is that it is still in its Early Access stage of development and many aspects of the game could change, and it would not surprise me if IAP were added to the game. That being said, IAP are completely normal way to support the developers, and the game as it is, is extremely well polished for an early access title with a few bugs here and there.
All in all this game is a very refreshing addition to App Store.
