Coromon Made Me Miss the GBA Era... [QUICK REVIEW]

Coromon Made Me Miss the GBA Era... [QUICK REVIEW]

"Coromon is a lovingly crafted homage to the classic Pokémon GBA and DS era, only harder, prettier, and smarter"
🎮 Gameplay: Pretty smooth and fun, just like the OG Pokémon games. Go around the world and fight each others Coromons in a turn-based, rpg style gameplay. There are a few differences in the gameplay mechanics when you compare them to the Pokémon games, but it ultimately, only improves the gaming experience even further. [9.5/10]
📖 Storyline: You're not a trainer aiming to reach the top, but rather a research trainer who battles other trainers to obtain data about the Coromons to improve the Coromon research. The free to download version in the playstore is a demo of the original game.  So in terms of story, you'll reach a dead end fairly soon and would be forced to buy the full version to play through the remaining story. [8/10]
🕹️ Controls: Easy controls. A floating, tiny joystick to move around your character. And a single button to interact with everything on the map. Controls on the fighting menu is also convenient since it's a touch screen (not a freaking gba). [9.5/10]
🤼 Combat Mechanics: Your usual Pokémon battles, not much of a change. The one different thing I noticed is that instead of the PP in Pokémon, we have SP in this game. Your Coromon will have an SP bar just like you have an HP bar, and different attacks you use costs different SP points. So your SP will keep draining the more you attack and once you have zero SP to attack, your Coromon will be forced to take a rest which restores your SP at the cost of a turn. A cool innovation imo. [9.7/10]
🗺️ Map Design: Nice map. Big enough to enjoy and explore. [9/10]
🚀 Travel & Transportation: You get speedy shoes from the beginning and can use it inside the buildings too (W Devs) [8/10]
🎨 Graphics: Pixelish graphics to match the old gba vibes. The locations, Vibrant Coloring and high resolution makes it much more pleasing to look at than the pokemon games. [9.1/10]
🎧 Sound: 8-bit kinda music to match the vibe. Decent sound effects too. [8.9/10]
👩‍👧‍👦 Character Customization: There's actually quite a lot of customisation available for your character (like clothes, hair etc) [8/10]
🐉 Creature & Monster Design: Great designs for Coromon with unique growl sounds for each of them (just like in pokemon) [9.2/10]
🛍️ In-game Purchases: You have to pay in order to play the full version.  And there's the option to buy In-game currency through micro-transactions. I haven't played long enough to see whether the currencies are hard to earn or not, but I feel like there shouldn't be micro transactions if the game itself is paid. [4.9/10]
💡 Innovation: They did some refreshing new concepts in this game along with the implementation of the pokemon vibes. They didn't just exactly copy it, but added their own spices to the mix. One of them being the concept of an advanced gauntlet which can emit repel, smash and burn things, kinda replacing the HM's. The new things definitely improves the gaming experience even more, and I'm positive that everyone will like it as well [9.8/10]
👍 Pros:
  1. SP-based combat adds strategic depth
  2. Refreshing twists on classic Pokémon mechanics
  3. Gorgeous pixel graphics with vibrant coloring
  4. Speedy shoes usable indoors (W devs)
  5. Customizable characters with decent variety
👎 Cons:
  1. Demo ends quick; full story locked behind paywall
  2. Paid game still has microtransactions
💖 Overall Experience: Really really fun and I can see myself getting addicted to this if I invest a bit more of my time. If you're a fan of the Pokémon gba/ds series, then this one is a no-brainer. [8.6/10]
