The game starts off pretty standard of what you'd expect in a gacha/empire building time based game. Than you require resources to defend yourself and attack during events that are essentially necessary to complete in order to advance effectively forward w your given server. Otherwise you'll fall back so drastically that the 'catch up' is otherwise impossible.

Terrible tutorials for these events, leaving you blind to enemy assaults/event participation. Some of these events literally have MULTIPLE tutorials for their various 'stages' for singular events making things additionally complicated/confusing and none of which actually guide you through other than a written tutorial that is so complicated and poorly written that I can assure you that you'll be too overwhelmed before you even get to TRY.

See the second pic for their event tutorial write-ups and how complicated they make it. There is no in-game tutorial for these events, just a write up like that every time.

Things will light up in-game like a 'cross-border' button & you won't even understand how to use it because their instructions are so incredibly complicated and lack basic guidance entirely.

Don't waste your time unless you're a Die Hard Fan of AoE, however even than I think you will be let down, as I was a fan, but now I'm just sad I wasted my time :(
