As the autumnal breeze plays in both tempestuous gusts and gentle lulls, it dances amidst the canopies of flame, rustling the vivid hues in bright waves.
The days seem to be growing shorter as darkness settles over us in prolonged periods. That being so, sigh... Today has been yet another dreary day here in this coastal city.
Huddled by the fireplace, I watch my cousin as he teams up with his mates to scavenge for items and eradicate any lingering undead foes in State of Decay 2.
Intrigued, it evokes a sense of desire within me to join in on the fun. Yet, the notion of bringing my laptop with me had slipped my mind entirely when I rushed to my aunt’s house earlier (Oh, woe is me!). As a cold knot of regret settles in the pit of my stomach, I whip out my trusty phone and load up a game that a mate of mine had recommended to me.
Sure, it may have kept me entertained for the first couple of hours, but it dawns on me that it becomes very grindy progressively. Well, that’s about it, tbh.
In any case, Into the Dead 2: Zombie Survival (ITD) is infectious, and it’s an arcadey first player shooter that takes you through a tiresome cycle across 3 modes—Daily, Main Story, and Side Story Mode.
The game has you step into the shoes of Henry, a desperate chap who is separated from his family when his scouting mission has gone terribly wrong. Hence, he sets off on a zombie-infested journey (or rather, a sprint) through the country and back to his family.
As I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, the goal of the game is relatively simple—you just gotta strafe to either side and take shots at the undead with an arsenal of guns (if you have unlocked them, that is). Apart from that, there’s nothing else that you’ve to worry about since Henry’ll be doing all the hard work for you. So, like what Dory advises, just keep swimming, just keep swimming! (Well, running in our case...)
As I’ve mentioned earlier, the simplicity of the game mechanics does become quite a bore in a certain sense, especially after playing it for long hours. After going through the game, what I found most lacking is that the narrative cutscenes don’t offer a compelling storyline and aren’t exactly built into each run. Instead, it appears to be included as an additional add-on to the end of each run. It sure ain’t captivating enough, innit?Be that as it may, the stunning visuals may have been the only aspect that has pushed me to continue with this game. Shrouded in a permanent cloud of mist, ITD offers a pretty solid and atmospheric environment, although it does seem reminiscent of The Walking Dead by TellTale.
If you’re looking for something to keep you entertained on the go or for a quick 10-minute mobile fix, this might just be up your alley. So, hone your mind and take stock of your ammo before assisting Henry in reuniting with his family here.
