GUNDAM BATTLE GUNPLA WARFARE: Great GunPla Building But Loading Is A Hassle

10K View2021-10-21
GUNDAM BATTLE GUNPLA WARFARE is a unique Gacha game where instead of rolling for characters, you roll for parts to build you GunPla. Players then use the GunPla that they built to go on various missions and battle opponents. But is this there more to this game? Well, there certainly is.

Building Actually Fun!

I actually build GunPla, though I mostly stick to Master Grade (MG) and Real Grade (RG) GunPla models. Now, this game would give you various parts, from the head to the torso, to the arms, legs, weapons, backpack, and shield. You get these parts from various mobile suits in random, since it's Gacha and all, and you level up these parts via experience gained through battle or by using Upgrade Tools.
But Where this actually gets fun is the mixing and matching of the various GunPla parts. Heck, you even get to decide which "A.I." pilot from the various anime series gets to... well... pilot the GunPla you've made.
TapTap
Players can also "paint" their models, and mixing and matching colours may be as fun as the building the GunPla themselves. However, I find the number of shades for each colour quite limited to say the least. Players can also get pre-made patterns such as camouflage colours, but I find getting some of these patterns quite taxing and may not be worth the effort. Well... you can always pay for these patterns to make it easy on yourself.
Battles Are Either Too Easy Or Too Difficult

I have to be honest. Sometimes, the battles in the game are too much of a chore. Sure, you get to skip some battles with Skip Tickets, but only if you've previously cleared them with at least 3 Stars.
TapTap
The battles themselves can be fun at times, but mostly, they are either too easy or just too difficult, There seems to be no middle ground. The game does tell you the difficulty, but I find the difference between "Easy" and "Normal" to be miniscule. There is a large difference between "Normal" and "Hard," however.
Overall, the battles are easy to understand, so not much skill is needed. You just need to level up your parts to make them stronger in order to fight the harder difficulty battles. Though in that aspect, this is where the pay-to-win system comes in.
Story Mode is Meh

There is a Story Mode within the game, where the player joins a club and interacts with club members, opponents, and GunPla store owners. There really is nothing much in the story, which is kinda bland and very much generic.
I love the designs, though. They look great and would very much sell if used in a different visual novel. But that's all there is regarding the characters. They are all two-dimensional and generic, despite having a great design. I could not care about any of them, including Sana, who comes off as a bit too clingy and annoying,
TapTap
I tried going through the visual novel part, but in the end, all I wanted was to get on with the battles and skipped everything regarding the cut scenes.
Too much Credits, Not Enough Haro Chips

There are two main in-game currencies. The Credits which you use to purchase generic parts at the shop, and the Haro Chips which you use to  roll for the gacha, as well as expand your items box in case you have too much parts.
TapTap
However, Haro Chips are quite difficult to get. With Credits, you get a lot of them, but don't get to spend them as much.
There are also tickets and other stuff, which are difficult to get in the game but easy to get if you're willing to fork over some real world cash. Pay-To-Win indeed.
Loading Problems and Lag

But perhaps the biggest problem I ever had in the game was the big loading problem. Often, the game would just get stuck for 10 minutes at the loading screen. This is prevalent with the start screen, but also appears within the battle loading screen every now and then.
TapTap
I find myself closing the app and then reopening it every time this happens. Though sometimes, I have to wait a few more minutes before reopening... or completely restarting my device just to get it to load properly.
Final Verdict

While the GunPla building and painting aspects are fun, the glaring problem is the fact that starting the game up is a hassle. But if you can look past that flaw, as well as the often frustrating gacha mechanics and boring story, this might become a real treat for all you Gundam fans and GunPla builders out there.

it's quite literally a re-release of a previous mobile game they had. ironically the one before loaded so well that I was in the top 100 or so ranked. it had a us server. . Was called Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare. the only thing youll find with that name are social media or YouTube posts regarding it. it has officially been wiped and re released as GBM sucks because I literally cant even beyond the title page.

A very nice model build-up game with great details. Difficulty is from easy to hard, with dozens to thousands of parts. Not only guns, but also very many other types can be put together, such as tanks, each type contains a lot to choose. Players can first dismantle and then put together there are hints to choose if you can't do it.
