DanMachi - MEMORIA FREESE: Good Gacha Rates Mean Less Salt And More Fun

At first look, DanMachi - MEMORIA FREESE looks just like any anime-based mobile RPG with gacha elements. However, as I progressed, I found myself hooked and honestly having fun.

The Good:
The story mode basically retells the events of the anime, along with a few additions and omissions. It's a great way to grind out your characters, as well as farm materials. Progressing through the story mode is also needed to unlock certain events and missions, as well as features. And honestly, unlike most anime-based mobile games, progressing doesn't really feel like a chore.

Then there's the battle system where Bell and his party progress through a series of battles. Like most games of its genre, players can go full auto or progress manually, like an idle game. I like this idle game aspect because it lets me just leave it on auto and do other stuff like chores or watching anime. And by the time I am done with those things, my party has already cleared the mission. And I find this game's system much more convenient for idle play than many of the other mobile RPGs out there.

But what sets this game apart is its higher-than-usual gacha rates. I found myself pulling some very rare characters around 40% of the time for every roll I do. Memoria Freese only goes up to 4 stars, and I have already gotten a lot of them since starting earlier this month.

And completing certain missions and events also grant you specific 4-star characters, as well as tickets for a 100% guaranteed 4-star character. So yeah, a small chunk of all the 4-star characters I own are from these tickets or from clearing event missions.

I have always been salty with gacha games, but here, I found less salt as I am always rewarded with rare and powerful characters. Heck, I have even drawn the character I wanted to have, a 4-star yukata version of Ais, twice already.

And this is neither good nor bad, but just wanna add that this game also has a weird Alien Invaders-like mini game called Ais Wars. It was kinda fun, but I found myself not playing it after the first few games because I was more into the main missions that this weird side game.

The Bad

When I first got the game, it took forever to download, arguably one of the longest downloads I had for a mobile game. It also takes a lot of space and suffers from lag every now and then.
And while the gacha rates are high, it's easy to get overpowered rather quickly. Simply put, having three 4-star characters in the early missions feel more like an overkill. I actually breezed through those early story missions without damage because of my 4-star characters. But while that is a downer, it does not make the game boring in hindsight. I found myself struggling with the event missions as the game went on.
Overall

Higher-than-usual gacha rates make this game stand out for me, and the fact that it did not grow stale as I progressed was just wonderful. It is still not a perfect game, as loading takes forever and sometimes, it's a bit too easy with a roster of overpowered characters curbstomping anything in their path. However, I genuinely had fun with this and I feel that all its faults are just nitpicking. A truly good game to say the least, and one of the best anime-based gacha RPG out there.

Easily one of the best games on mobile. It's even better if you're a huge fan of the SaGa series, like me. The game has gorgeous pixel graphics and 2D character portraits. You prefer seeing a character's original portrait? This game has 'em! You prefer new, modern character portraits? This game has those as well! Like in every single SaGa game, Re;univerSe has beautiful music and an interesting story!

This game presents a clear picture of how vile and greedy Chinese companies making online games can be. Yes, Century Games is a chinese corp. We've been lied to and misinformed about the game being generous to users with tons of good free and event stuffs, but the music stops as soon as you enter the game and see it for yourself . . . . Asides from the skill animations & graphical aspects, nothing much about the game is praiseworthy nor does it have anything new to offer in the Turn Based RPG market. The devs would go as far as to remove and toss down the negative reviews while keeping the positive ones (by clone accounts) above, fooling people into falling for their trap. Despite the stamina giveaway, you're still eventually going to struggle for it as well as the materials needed to level up and promote your heroes in short time. Story and dungeon mode difficulty rises rapidly as you proceed on and there is no option to skip the hero ultimate skill animation prolonging the battle phases. And as for gacha itself... That's beyond horrible. The drop rate is only 1% and that speaks true for itself. Even Netease's Onmyoji (company I hate) has better drop rates (1.2%) than this dumpster fire of a RPG. Not to mention the gacha resources are also very tough to acquire. The game let's new users make only 5 retries of gacha on the so-called "choose you legendary hero" banner among 7 legendary heroes (NERFED) when it doesn't even guarantee legendary grade on every pull. It's as if the devs deliberately don't want you to have any decent legendary grade hero for a satisfied start of the game. On the other hand, a new Chinese RPG named "The Project : Akasha" at it's initial stage is already being very generous enough to all users, with gacha drop rate being 4.6% .. Everytime I enter that game, I'm being bombarded with tons of freebies. Not just that, even Soul Land and Figure Story has drop rates of 10% and 4% respectively. Heir of Light, Super String and Hero Cantare are also very promising to users of all class. These are the types of companies that actually value their customers' mental satisfaction and want them to continue using their gaming products with a smile. These are the types of companies your money is worth investing on. Mark my words, by the end of this year or the beginning of next year, this game will literally lose more than half of it's users unable to meet their common needs, thus becoming a ghost town RPG where only your message on global chat window will echo around. In short, if you're someone who don't mind stingy RPG and aimed for competition & annihilation (of younger free players in PvP) , then congrats, this might be the perfect game for you ~~

There's opportunity but needs lots of work
the only reason I'm still playing and what I really love is the storytelling and expression and antics and animation each character makes gives that anime feel like you're part of their world. this is rare in gacha games i played where majority of them looks like cutouts placed on a background. this is totally different. this character interaction for me is immersive. i like the combat system, all characters are fighting on the field and there's no need to switch out which is rare in gacha and i truly appreciate that. controlling on mobile can be difficult and there's just no option to customize the buttons. if you have big thumbs like me, its a problem coz button layouts are too close to one another I tend to tap the wrong buttons. hope they fix it.
