If you love Persona 5, you’ve got to check out Eternights

SHOULD I PLAY ETERNIGHTS? Play it, unless you absolutely can’t stand Japanese RPG conventions or dating sim goofiness. I already professed my love for Eternights based off the demo released a few months back. Now that I’ve spent more time with the full version of the game, I’m happy to report that those feelings have held up. Eternights may not have the RPG system depth of the Persona series it’s obviously inspired by, but it manages to capture the charm and fun of dating during the end-times.

Dating At Worlds End - Eternights Quick Review

IS ETERNIGHTS WORTH A LOOK? Hey there! When I initially heard of Studio Sais' Eternights- I initially thought of the persona games. A time limit until a climatic/apocalyptic event? Navigating social situations for the sake of death-dealing & dating? It sounded like a familiar recipe on the whole- but, that wasn't quite the whole story, because in practice, Eternights leans away from turn-based comment- instead being more of dungeon crawling hack and slash. Admittedly, there is some finesse involved- given there's a focus on perfect dodging, and even parrying, to create the openings you need to take down basic enemies. Compound that with limited healing, and you have a fairly challenging experience on your hands, at least in the initial segments of the game. Really, the largest kindness the game affords you is a fairly liberal amount of auto-saves, which helps to mitigate the consequences of dying.

Eternights: A Hack'N'Slash, Dating Sim [5-Min. Review]

Eternights is a mishmash of a dating sim and a hack’n’slash put into one. As the debut game of the Korean-based studio, Studio Sai, Eternights takes great inspiration from the social elements of Persona, according to the word of its project director, Jae Hyun Joo. The question is, does Eternights pull that off? Eternights is an ambitious game that sets out to do so many things at once. It is clearly emulating Persona with its social elements, which it does not perfectly but admirably. Same can’t be said for the combat in the game, as it definitely needs more polish.

What is Eternights by Studio Sai? [60-Sec. Review]

Eternights is a mishmash of a dating sim and a hack’n’slash put into one. As the debut game of the Korean-based studio, Studio Sai, Eternights takes great inspiration from the social elements of Persona, according to the word of its project director, Jae Hyun Joo. Though certainly not perfect, Eternights is an admirable showing from an independent studio capable of even better if they played to their strengths.

Eternights - A Casual Dungeon Crawl Dating Sim

Hey Hey! This one is a bit of a treat since I've been following the development of Studio Sais' Eternights for quite some time. As a veteran of the Persona series, there was something about the combination of tight time management, dungeon crawling, and a bit of dating on the side that seemed altogether tantalizing- especially since it was mixing things up by veering into Hack N' Slash territory. That said, my opinions of the game have evolved substantially from those I shared in the quick review I'd made early on- given I've now finished my first playthrough at the tail end of 20 hours. So, take a seat- because we're going to go over what worked, and what didn't for Eternights- and whether this date was a Dud. Also, small forewarning here- while the game says it 'recommends' using a controller, in practice, it was -not- fun to play on keyboard and mouse. Save yourself the pain of trying. (Especially since key rebinding isn't a thing.
