TapTap Game of the Year 2023 #4: Alan Wake II - the best action game of 2023

Alan Wake II starts off like a gritty detective serial, but it doesn’t take long for reality to break down completely. It whisks players along on a surreal adventure through dreams and memories that is at turns terrifying, grandiose, and hilarious. It’s the rare game that defies genre boundaries and illustrates the incredible power of video games as a new storytelling medium, one that can draw inspiration from older forms while never being constrained by them.

Dead Effect 2 ( early access ) | Android 2026

Developed by BadFly Interactive, Dead Effect 2 arrived on Xbox One and PC in 2016, immediately establishing itself as one of the most ambitious sci-fi shooters on the indie scene. After the studio's demise around 2020, the game was subsequently acquired by App Holdings on the Google Play Store in 2026. 1) 📝 STORYLINE: The story of Dead Effect 2 takes place aboard the gigantic spaceship ESS Meridian, a scientific laboratory transformed into a futuristic hellscape. The protagonist awakens after a long hibernation to discover that the entire crew has been infected by biological mutations, cybernetic zombies, and genetically altered creatures. During the adventure, you are guided by various artificial intelligences and survivors, trying to uncover the cause of the disaster. The plot blends horror, science fiction, and illegal military experimentation, recalling atmospheres similar to Dead Space and DOOM.  As you progress, scientific conspiracies, human DNA experiments, and forbidden technologies emerge that have transformed the Meridian into a death trap. The campaign is surprisingly long for a mobile title, with main missions, side quests, and numerous voiced dialogues that make the experience more cinematic.

PSYCHOPOMP GOLD — IT ISN'T A SEQUEL SADLY

If you love it, support it. I didn't like it very much cause I was expecting something that wasn't just a slightly remastered version of the original. I'll still support the dev, I still like what the original had to offer and the rest of the content that was added in is sure to appeal to the die hard fans, but this wasn't for me and I don't think it would be for most people, who want more than the free version offers.

Death Stranding is still better on PlayStation, but the iOS version isn’t a total loss

When I first heard that legendary game developer Hideo Kojima was creating a postapocalyptic open-world game starring The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus, I was through the roof with excitement. And yet, when that game finally launched in 2019, with a pandemic looming right around the corner, it somehow slipped my radar. Who could’ve guessed that just over four years later, a full, triple-A console game like

Heaven Dust 2: Striking Similarity to the Original

In 2020, the video game "Heaven Dust" boldly posed the inquiry, "What would happen if "Resident Evil 1" were presented with a top-down camera perspective?" The resultant offering manifested as a proficient action-adventure, notably more accessible than its muse due to the perpetual visibility of zombies. Presently, the emergence of "Heaven Dust 2" initiates a subsequent query—"What if the "Heaven Dust" narrative unfolded within a more expansive mansion?" Consequently, this sequel lacks the endearing qualities found in its forerunner. "Heaven Dust 2" unfolds in the aftermath of its predecessor, with the protagonist, Steve, awakening from the cryo pod wherein he had been confined after an abduction by corporate operatives. He discovers himself within another mansion besieged by rampant zombies. Regrettably, those anticipating a setting akin to a city immersed in a zombocalypse reminiscent of "Resident Evil 2" will likely find themselves disillusioned by the sequel's thematic choice.

MOUTHWASHING - A GENUINELY GREAT HORROR STORY

It's that time of the year again, when we start to get a taste of horror from many different angles. Sometimes all you need is a simple concept, reminiscent of the age when Horror was at it's peak in gameplay design and execution during the Playstation 1 rise. Mouthwashing is a lot of things... It's short, atmospheric, exhilarating, and highly captivating in terms of drawing you closer to each character while simultaneously making you feel detached from them in unexpected ways.

CLOUD GAMING - HEAVEN DUST 2 - YOU A CLASSIC HORROR FAN?

Game: Heaven Dust 2 Platform: PC Genre: Zombies / Survival Horror / Puzzles Released: Jan 6th 2022 Price: $11 🔗Join the Playfest >> https://www.taptap.io/events/playfest2023winter 📅 Schedule Dates: December 23, 12 AM PT - January 7, 11:59 PM PT. Playfest Winners & Player Rewards Announcement: January 8, 12 AM PT. MY TAPTAP CLOUD GAMING EXPERIENCE Abhorrent and extremely irritating. One aspect that set this game apart from others through Cloud Gaming was the user interface's of shooting with a weapon. The weapons serve almost no purpose due to the requirement of aiming with one's finger until it locks onto the creature, which severely restricts movement. Following that, you must release your finger from the target after pressing the gun icon which locks it in place.

Misguided | Android

This is the mobile remake of the iconic psychological horror game developed by Enigmatic Studio. This remastered version delivers a haunting narrative experience, improving graphics, audio, and fluidity compared to the original. It's essentially a first-person horror game with strong exploratory elements and environmental puzzles, designed to immerse us in a constantly tense and disturbing atmosphere. Everything revolves around a nameless protagonist who wakes up in a seemingly abandoned building, with no memory of how he got there. From the first minutes, a sense of disorientation sets in: silent corridors, flickering lights, and rooms that seem to change layout. Through scattered documents, audio recordings, and sudden visions, we discover that the place is linked to psychological experiments and traumatic events from the past. The protagonist seems to have a direct connection to what happened: fragments of memory gradually emerge, revealing a story of guilt, mental manipulation, and distorted reality. The narrative plays heavily on ambiguity: is what we see real or a figment of the protagonist's mind?  Sudden appearances and environmental changes help maintain the tension until the finale, where the pieces of the puzzle come together in a revelation as disturbing as it is surprising. The gameplay is structured primarily in first-person, with free exploration of the environments, collection of key objects, solving environmental puzzles, and scripted events and sudden moments of tension. There is no combat here. The setting is one of the game's strengths: claustrophobic corridors, dark rooms, realistic ambient sounds, and a key audio component. The remastered version improves textures, dynamic lighting, and stability on modern devices, making the experience more immersive. I recommend it to lovers of narrative psychological horror. It doesn't focus on excessive jump scares, but on a constant atmosphere of unease and mystery. The remaster enhances an already interesting project, making it more accessible and fluid on mobile. A short but intense experience, capable of leaving a lasting impression, especially for those who love ambiguous and profound stories.

Resident Evil 4 on iPhone is the worst way to play one of the best games of all time

Resident Evil 4 is a game I’d recommend to absolutely anyone. It’s a masterpiece of the survival horror genre, with smooth, satisfying combat and some fantastically spooky set pieces. The original was already a stone-cold classic, but the 2023 remake refined its graphics and gameplay mechanics, making the game feel better than ever. It’s something that everyone should play at least once, but if you have literally any other options, you probably shouldn’t play it on mobile.
