I had to battle against various creatures using abilities and a beam of light that I could redirect willingly with the swoosh and hold of a finger. I’ve found the story mode more enjoyable so far, despite only dabbling in the game’s survival mode, but I’ve yet to play multiplayer.

In the ever-expansive world of video games, where each title vies for attention, it can be easy to overlook truly innovative titles. One game stood out to me in 2023 as a true gem that deserves everyone’s attention: Jusant. Fake Future has an intriguing concept and fantastic visuals, but it's held back by a clunky translation. This sci-fi citybuilder is set in a retro-futuristic version of earth. You control a group of artificial beings known as cybernoids as they work to recolonize Earth. While Fake Future started me off with plenty of quests, it didn't have any sort of tutorial, so it took me a while to get a handle on the gameplay. The in-game text doesn't always make sense, and the unclear quest objectives left me feeling confused and overwhelmed.
