Heaven Dust 2: Striking Similarity to the Original

In 2020, the video game "Heaven Dust" boldly posed the inquiry, "What would happen if "Resident Evil 1" were presented with a top-down camera perspective?" The resultant offering manifested as a proficient action-adventure, notably more accessible than its muse due to the perpetual visibility of zombies. Presently, the emergence of "Heaven Dust 2" initiates a subsequent query—"What if the "Heaven Dust" narrative unfolded within a more expansive mansion?" Consequently, this sequel lacks the endearing qualities found in its forerunner. "Heaven Dust 2" unfolds in the aftermath of its predecessor, with the protagonist, Steve, awakening from the cryo pod wherein he had been confined after an abduction by corporate operatives. He discovers himself within another mansion besieged by rampant zombies. Regrettably, those anticipating a setting akin to a city immersed in a zombocalypse reminiscent of "Resident Evil 2" will likely find themselves disillusioned by the sequel's thematic choice.

Pocket Playfest Winter Edition Day 5 Wrap-up: Core Devourer Claims the Day!
I gave this one a quick go during the PocketPlayfest winter 2023. Great strategic gameplay with a ton of potential. This game compares favorably to Roguebook, another deck building, rogue like, auto-battler, and one of my favorites. The mechanics are interesting, but familiar and the gameplay is about what you'd expect. I'm assuming this pre-release version is missing some animations and graphical refinement. There were also some weird quirks in the text elements that could do with a grammar check, but all were minor. I'll definitely be bagging this one when it comes out!

"Heaven Dust 2" builds upon the success of its predecessor, offering an enhanced survival horror experience. The game continues to excel in creating a tense atmosphere with its eerie environments and suspenseful sound design. The updated graphics contribute to a more immersive and visually appealing world. The intricate puzzles and resource management add depth to the gameplay, appealing to fans of classic survival horror. While maintaining a nostalgic feel, "Heaven Dust 2" successfully modernizes the series, making it a solid choice for those who appreciate a good blend of horror and puzzle-solving in their gaming experience.

[Pocket Playfest 2023 Winter Edition] Minds Beneath Us

Minds Beneath Us is set to offer a compelling mix of sci-fi thriller, mystery, and interactive adventure. The game's futuristic setting, rich storytelling, and visually captivating presentation create a unique gaming experience. While the demo provides only a brief glimpse into the game's potential, it succeeds in getting me excited and anticipating the full release. Ultimately, it’s a charming game with huge potential to be one of the better narrative indie games out there once it comes out. I do hope it doesn't take so long that I forget about the game entirely.

Picture a game that looks left at all of the fans clamoring for a new Power Stone game, looks right at the ones who want a new War of the Monsters, and then shrugs its shoulders and says “Why not both?” That game is GigaBash. It’s a 3D arena fighter with a collection of 10 monsters and mechas inspired by classic kaijus and a focus on simple controls, environmental destructibility, and the power fantasy of being a giant monster slamming other giant monsters through skyscrapers. It’s not much more than meets the eye, but its claws are certainly sharp enough to scratch any kaiju-sized party fighter itches.GigaBash’s biggest strength is how it balances its immediately intuitive controls with just the right amount of depth underneath that approachable surface. Every character has a basic attack and special attack, a charged version of those attacks, an aerial version of those attacks, a charged aerial version of those attacks, and then two unique abilities that are performed by holding block and pressing a button. In addition to that, there’s a button to dodge, a dodge attack to hit enemies on the run, a button to pick up and throw enemies, objects, or even buildings, and that’s it. This ease of play allows GigaBash to fit snugly in that spot every friend group should have as a game where you just hand the controller over to someone with little to no knowledge of how to play, tell them a few quick things, and they’ll have a fun time.
