Pocket Playfest: An Indie Celebration 2023 Winter Edition In a recent hands-on exclusive experience this past weekend, I had the privilege of testing a handful of titles on TapTap's experimental cloud gaming service, setting the stage for this 16-day event where indie game developers show-off their creations exclusively on the TapTap mobile platform — fully playable PC games without the need for an actual PC, Android/iOS version, or the need to download the games and install them.  Granted, you’d need to have a reliable internet service to be able to stream these games, and preferably are located in US and Canada for consistent play and latency, at least for now.

As a gamer, I recently played Devil Slayer Raksasi and found it to be an enjoyable and engaging experience. Here's my review of the game: Gameplay: Devil Slayer Raksasi is a top-down action rogue-like game that combines elements of Onimusha, Binding of Isaac, and Souls games. The game features a unique blend of hack-and-slash combat, dungeon crawling, and character progression. Graphics: While the game's graphics may not be groundbreaking, they are visually appealing and complement the game's atmosphere. The top-down format does limit the game's ability to showcase its artistry, but it still works well.

Combo Carts Clashers is a wild ride! The combination of fast-paced racing and strategic card battling brings a unique twist to the gaming scene. It's like Mario Kart met a collectible card game, creating a delightful chaos on wheels. Buckle up and deal those cards for an exhilarating gaming experience!

SHOULD I PLAY MINDS BENEATH US? This is definitely one to check out if you’re interested in adventure games or cyberpunk stories. Minds Beneath Us is a modern, more down-to-earth spin on Ghost in the Shell. It’s set a couple decades in the future in an unnamed city in Asia where AI controls many aspects of daily lives and shadowy agencies use data ghosts to possess targets and spy on their enemies. It’s stylish and atmospheric, and the story had me hooked right away—even though I found some of the pixel-hunting a bit tedious.

Wild Legion, with its auto-attack hoard survival gameplay and a blend of genres, presents another intriguing addition to the rogue-like genre with its mix of many gameplay elements from adjacent genres. While the demo provides a taste of the game's potentially fun nature, it also highlights the need for optimization to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. As Wild Legion prepares for its Early Access release in Q1 2024, addressing technical issues and refining gameplay mechanics will be pivotal in realizing the game's full potential.

✨Overview I’ve been on a rogue-like roll recently, and now we’re about to cover yet another game the in the genre with Wild Legion, an upcoming rogue-like survival game with some refreshing twists. I recently played the Demo available on Steam and it’s basically Brotato on steroids, featuring auto-attack horder survival gameplay filled with elements taken from other genres such as tower defense, twin-stick shooting, crafting, and questing. The game is still under development, and set to be release in Early Access on Q1 2024.

Trap Master takes its own unique spin on the Tower Defense genre. Implementing a rogue-like card battler aspect to the game. You can literally be THE Trap Master in this game. This is the type of game that really embodies the saying "play your cards right" in order to win. Overall, it is a very engaging game for anyone who likes strategy games.

When I think of card based roguelikes, lots of games come to mind. This game adds the element of combos to the mix and has my attention more then a lot of the others. Your cards are not one and done. You add them to your combo and your attack grows each round. Can you afford the health to get a super powerful combo attack? That adds a lot more thinking and strategy then some of the other deck building games. I am watching this game for its future.

I have only played the demo version, but I can already see that Combo Card Clashers is a promising addition to the roguelike deckbuilder genre, offering a delightful blend of strategy, creativity, and replayability. Its unique combat system, where players craft their attacks and spells through card combinations, sets it apart from other games in the genre. Combo Card Clashers is a title worth keeping an eye on for fans of roguelike deckbuilders and those seeking a game that encourages strategic creativity.

Winner of the Day: Minds Beneath Us Minds Beneath Us takes the spotlight in Day 9 of the Pocket Playfest, captivating players with its immersive cyberpunk narrative and innovative gameplay. This game's triumph (twice!) is a testament to its engaging storytelling and well-executed sci-fi thriller elements. Acknowledging CD 2: Trap Master CD 2: Trap Master, despite its remarkable strategy gameplay, couldn't secure a win in this round. However, it’s not the end of the line for this inventive tower defense card game. CD 2: Trap Master is set for another round of competition, facing Heaven Dust 2 on January 2nd. This matchup promises to be a thrilling encounter.

SHOULD I PLAY COMBO CARD CLASHERS? Definitely give this demo a try, especially if you like card games. Combo Card Clashers merges the fun, strategic experience of deck-builders with the randomized gameplay of roguelikes. Similar to games like Slay the Spire, this combo allows for plenty of twists and endless possibilities. When you usually got pixel graphics for this type of game but this.. I love the gameplay, art, and the story is captivating. The thing is sometimes the game lag. Well, it's just a test and I'm looking forward to the improvement in the official release.
