Picture a game that looks left at all of the fans clamoring for a new Power Stone game, looks right at the ones who want a new War of the Monsters, and then shrugs its shoulders and says “Why not both?” That game is GigaBash. It’s a 3D arena fighter with a collection of 10 monsters and mechas inspired by classic kaijus and a focus on simple controls, environmental destructibility, and the power fantasy of being a giant monster slamming other giant monsters through skyscrapers. It’s not much more than meets the eye, but its claws are certainly sharp enough to scratch any kaiju-sized party fighter itches.GigaBash’s biggest strength is how it balances its immediately intuitive controls with just the right amount of depth underneath that approachable surface. Every character has a basic attack and special attack, a charged version of those attacks, an aerial version of those attacks, a charged aerial version of those attacks, and then two unique abilities that are performed by holding block and pressing a button. In addition to that, there’s a button to dodge, a dodge attack to hit enemies on the run, a button to pick up and throw enemies, objects, or even buildings, and that’s it. This ease of play allows GigaBash to fit snugly in that spot every friend group should have as a game where you just hand the controller over to someone with little to no knowledge of how to play, tell them a few quick things, and they’ll have a fun time.

I may have been uncertain at the start whether or not I would enjoy Devil Slayer Raksasi, but in the end, it’s actually one of the best rogues I’ve played in a long while. While graphically, it may not shatter anyone’s expectations, and the music is generally pretty muted, it does so much more right in how it plays. Coupled with an interesting premise, mysterious robed overlords, demon hybrids, and monsters, and you end up with a really satisfying indie game. I’m definitely impressed and look forward to future projects from GlassesCatGames.

I played this Risk of Rain 2 and Vampire Survivors mash up on PC and Mobile (Cloud) | Core Devourer

Pocket Playfest: An Indie Celebration 2023 Winter Edition In a recent hands-on exclusive experience this past weekend, I had the privilege of testing a handful of titles on TapTap's experimental cloud gaming service, setting the stage for this 16-day event where indie game developers show-off their creations exclusively on the TapTap mobile platform — fully playable PC games without the need for an actual PC, Android/iOS version, or the need to download the games and install them.  Granted, you’d need to have a reliable internet service to be able to stream these games, and preferably are located in US and Canada for consistent play and latency, at least for now.

What if Vampire Survivors had farming and frogs? Pesticide Not Required is my ideal roguelite

SHOULD I PLAY PESTICIDE NOT REQUIRED? Absolutely yes. Pesticide Not Required has everything I could ever want in a Vampire Survivors clone: smooth bullet heaven gameplay, over-the-top power-ups, frogs, farming mechanics, and even a pet capybara to help me care for my plants. I’ve only played the demo, but I’m already head over heels in love with Pesticide Not Required. Unless you totally hate roguelites—or frogs—this is a must play.

If players are deeply engrossed in the gaming world, especially fond of pinball, slot machines, or tower defense games, "Devil Slot Machine" will likely capture their attention. Although some do not typically delve into these genres, the unique idea of risking the soul in a gambling showdown against a demonic entity immediately caught such interest. While the game could improve gameplay and presentation, the intriguing game mechanics and nostalgic retro pixel graphics convinced them that the upcoming full-release version has significant potential. Venturing into pinball, slot machines, and tower defense, "Devil Slot Machine" provides a distinct gaming experience that may appeal to fans of these genres. Kudos to a promising start of what (at first) seems like a typical roguelike deck builder. This game's combat features slotting skills into a grid. Your character's actions will heavily depend on the placement of each skill/modifier in the grid. Looking forward to more. Hopefully a future support for mobile resolutions & screen-tapping.

I tried this during the Pocket Playfest Winter 2023. The game looks intriguing with a story that grabs right away. Unfortunately, as with a couple other games during the playtest, I wasn't able to progress very far because of quirks with the cloud play controls. I figured out quickly that taps were mapped as left mouse clicks, but I couldn't left click on the door to progress the objective. Still, from the jump, I'm excited to see what happens next! I'll have to check this game out when it's released.
