Prime of Flames is a wargame/rougelike hybrid with tons of charm in its design. Initially released on Steam just last December, the version I'm reviewing now is the demo for its mobile port. Off-the-bat, the character designs got me hooked! There's just something in how each character was drawn. In my opinion, they're just so pleasing to the eye! And it's not just the characters. The entire game itself is designed to look a bit like it was a storybook fantasy.

Innovation Since the start of the event, I've been talking about the things we can find in Indie games. I had a big surprise with Dwerve and now with this game. The name of the game, the history and all the innovation in the gameplay and again.... The graphics are simple, but you notice all the richness of details according to the game's proposal. Going in, I thought this was just an Infinitode clone. Boy, am I glad I was wrong! Refractor is a pixel tower defense game with the idea that you could influence the path that the enemies would walk through. Personally, I like the art style. There's really just something nostalgic with pixel-art games that really draws me in. With regards to the game mechanics, it really is just a tower defense game with a few innovations. Each turret you build has a set of random neutral tiles that can serve as the enemies pathway. This game element is what really drives the strategy here since you have to be careful in placing turrets if you also want to extend the enemies path to the end portal.

Demo kinda funky thus can't say for sure but the gameplay is good enough, only problem is the repeating cycle of play - lose - repeat, which made me lose my interest too soon. Also not enough tutorial and too much text at once. Still, it has potential to be a good game.

This game is amazing! It doesn't have that high quality graphics, but the upside is.. it would probably run smoothly on lower end devices. The artstyle is beautiful, it reminds me a lot of Sdorica, but this game was made by Rayaka... And Not Rayark. The music is beautiful, it also fits the atmosphere very well. Greatly enchance my gameplay experience. The gameplay is your standard tactical turn based RPG, the skill design is pretty good, but overall nothing really groundbreaking.
