One of the fun parts of making my own game is that sometimes I can just take a character vibe I really like and turn it into a cat. So this time I made a new unit for Claws of Power called Wade. Dark outfit, glowing red blade, very obvious “space villain” energy. He’s not just there for looks, though. In battle he can use the red blade to block incoming ranged attacks, which makes him really funny to watch against archers and gunners. He also has a pull / gravity-like skill that drags enemies from farther away right into melee range, so once they get close, he can start bullying them properly. The whole thing is still hand-drawn frame by frame, and these GIFs are from my current test build. I’m still tuning him, but he’s already one of those units that feels very satisfying when everything lines up. On the surface it’s very simple, but a lot of the fun comes from timing, cost management, and how you mix units and items. A few cats I personally use a lot: Masashi (ninja cat) – when he meets the first enemy, he teleports behind them and keeps walking. He’s great for slipping past the frontline and going straight for the backline or even the base.

I always thought that kind of gameplay was weirdly addictive, and also had more room to be explored than most games ever did with it. So I ended up making my own version of that feeling — but with cats. At the core, it’s still a single-lane push game: you spend dried fish to summon units, they walk forward automatically, fight on the lane, and whoever destroys the enemy base first wins. But I’ve been trying to build more around that loop: different cat skills, items, equipment, timing, positioning, and more ways to actually make decisions instead of just spamming units. I still don’t know the perfect genre name for this kind of game. It’s a bit lane strategy, a bit tower defense, a bit RTS, and a bit chaotic auto-battle nonsense. I’m working on a small cat lane strategy game called Claws of Power, and these GIFs are from a chapter 4 run where my base was basically at 1 HP. I’d already accepted it was a loss, but it somehow turned into a clear. The core of the run is a simple combo: mech MK-350 + Gatling Bard. MK-350 goes to the frontline, takes hits and still does decent damage. When the mech breaks, the pilot John pops out with low HP and keeps shooting. If he survives long enough to fill his gauge, he can call the mech back, a bit like Kled’s “back on mount” feeling. Bard’s job is just to stand behind and delete things with raw DPS. The risky part is the timing: I let the enemy walk all the way to my base first, then only start dropping units and items when they’re right in front of the core. If I’m even a bit late, the base just explodes; this time it barely held and turned into a very satisfying clutch. Then you unlock three “upgraded” versions: • Xiao Fu – fork-wielding melee with a wide hitbox and knockback, very good at breaking formations. • Wu Ji – slingshot cat with extra damage and a little stun, kind of a CC / DPS hybrid. • Big Ju – chunky salted-fish bruiser who hits hard and can heal himself by eating the fish when low.
