I’m working on a small cat lane strategy game called Claws of Power, and this was one of those test runs that felt either very smart or very stupid. I didn’t summon anything at the start. I just sat there, let the enemy walk all the way toward my base, and kept saving dried fish. Then right before things got out of control, I started spamming Bacon Jack only. Bacon Jack is the cheapest melee cat in the game, so normally he’s just disposable frontline material. But this time they all had gear and accessories on, and once enough of them piled up, the whole lane turned into a tiny screaming swarm. It doesn’t always work. If your fish income isn’t high enough, you either run out of fish halfway through or your base dies before the swarm even forms. But when it works, it’s very funny. I’m a solo dev working on a small cat lane strategy game called Claws of Power. You spend dried fish to summon different cats, line them up, and try to break the enemy base. These gifs are from a later vampire boss fight. The boss appears out of a swarm of bats, then walks forward with the wave, throwing out black energy orbs and lightning that can pretty much erase your frontline if your timing is bad. On my side it’s mainly the Gatling muscle cat plus Nuba (the blue tiger cat) trying to clean up the lane and slowly push toward him. The other gif is just a little interaction I really like: a tiny knight cat jumps onto a big tank cat and rides along, stabbing away while the big one eats all the damage in front. I’ve been testing a new unit in Claws of Power called Aosha. He’s basically an assassin cat: blue scarf, dual blades, always moving like he’s about to cause trouble. The idea for him actually came from a player, so this one is kind of a custom character brought into the game. One balance problem in earlier versions was that ranged units were getting a bit too comfortable, so I wanted something that could punish them directly instead of just trying to out-stat them. Aosha’s normal attacks have a chance to trigger a quick extra combo. But the more important part is his special trait: if he gets hit by a ranged projectile, he instantly blinks behind that ranged unit, does a guaranteed combo, and then teleports back to where he was before. So against archers and gunners he’s… not very polite. The GIFs I’m posting are from my latest test build. I’m still tuning him, but he’s already one of those units that feels very satisfying when the matchup is right.
