Here are seven Black game developers who had a major impact on the art form we love that everyone should know about.

SHOULD I PLAY SONIC SUPERSTARS? Play it, especially if you’re an old-school Sonic the Hedgehog fan or just love platformers. Sonic Superstars is the latest game to take its franchise back to basics, and I love it! Jumping into this 2D adventure felt just like playing a classic Sonic game. Although the lack of voice acting (or dialogue at all, really) reminded me of what I hated about that era, Sonic Superstars

SHOULD I PLAY METAL SLUG: AWAKENING? Play this one, especially if you’re a fan of the original Metal Slug series or like the simplicity of old-school run-and-gun games. Metal Slug: Awakening takes all the familiarities of this side-scrolling shooter and brings them into the modern age. It’s been a minute since I’ve played any Metal Slug games, but I’d be damned if I wasn’t impressed with the three-dimensional visuals, fully voiced cast, online multiplayer, and the barrage of weapons I could use to destroy all manner of freedom-hating enemies across the map.

SHOULD I PLAY THE CUB? Hell yes, especially since there’s a free demo available now. The Cub is an action-packed 2D platformer set on a postapocalyptic Earth that looks set to be one of the first indie hits of 2024. While the full game won’t be available until January 19, 2024, you can play the demo for free now, and it’s already very impressive. The game’s gorgeous visuals and challenging gameplay were definitely enough to sell me, and I can’t wait to check out the full version.

Pros: I really enjoy playing this game, all the game modes are so fun to play and the new event is exciting. Cons: I don't really have a con the game is very fun in my opinion. Overall: Very very fun game. I love it and highly recommend. Fortnight is one of the most influential games in history, and it is almost singularly responsible for battle passes that “pay for themselves”, free seasonal content updates, and cross-platform multiplayer becoming industry norms.

Alright, it's a great problem to have, but with so many upcoming hot titles, there are too many to choose from! That being said, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis has caught my eye. Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is set for release on September 7th on iOS and Android, and if the trailer is anything like the game, then it'll be quite the adventure. Despite the luxury of having a new Final Fantasy title based on the world of FF7 on my phone, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis has some legitimate aspects I'd like to check out.
