Sonic Superstars (Reviewed) Developer: SEGA Publisher: SEGA Released: Oct 17th, 2023 Price: $60 USD SEGA is back with another installment in the Sonic franchise. This time around with Sonic Superstars, a retro-charged return to the classics, but like with most entries into their series, not all is well. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog knocked this game out of the park and that was an April Fools joke that actually was amazing.

Horde shooters are as abundant as the waves of enemies you mow down. However, today’s game tries to stand out from the mobs by doing something a little different. Synced, a new free-to-play, multiplayer horde shooter is a game with a unique gimmick that turns the monsters you kill into one of your own weapons. That alone got me hooked on the premise and I synced right in. The only real criticism I can levy at Synced at the moment is that there isn’t a whole lot to do outside of the initial grind. But, since it only just came out, updates are bound to come soon and expand the way the game can be played.

One thing I noticed in t3 is the lack of unified effort towards a single premier experience, you can play totally different games across casual, ranked and battle royale. The effort is scattered. My proposal is making a single 5 v 5 game mode that can be played across ranked and casual and is the same in both, allowing devs to focus their effort and resources into a single premier experience that borrows from whats good from each of the current game modes.

On a personal note, my name is George, Studio Director for SRG. This has been a labor of love and a game you can almost say has been a decade in the making. Very few RPGs manage to capture the sense of whimsy and adventure of Super Mario RPG, so when one comes along, we take notice. That's why we couldn't look away when we saw the absolutely adorable and fun-looking Born of Bread. This RPG puts players into the shoes of Loaf, a "flour golem" who must journey the world and make new friends while solving a perplexing mystery. Like Super Mario RPG, Born of Bread's combat system is technically turn-based, but different moves allow players to do extra damage by completing timing-based challenges. So it requires a little more attention than the average turn-based RPG, where you might just tap "attack" over and over.
