THE FINALS is something fresh - TRUST THE HYPE

It's difficult to believe in a lot of things these days, when practically everything is clickbait or overhyped, with no gameplay foundation to build upon. I usually don't care what everyone else is excited about because, well. I know that most things seem too good to be true, and they almost always are. THE FINALS, while troublesome in a few areas, the majority of which are balancing and exploits that can only be done with a few classes, has the potential to become the next best thing, with no microtransactions that are predatory because everything in the playtest was shown to be play to earn, not pay to win.

If you skipped Warhammer 40,000: Darktide or stopped playing, it's time to give it another shot

Despite being made by the same team that created the beloved Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide and Warhammer: Vermintide 2, players were very lukewarm on last year's Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. The mixed reviews on Steam pointed to tons of bugs, a lack of content, and unrewarding progression as major problems contributing to the lack of excitement. Well, developer Fatshark has been working away at Darktide for a year now, improving on those issues with patches adding new content, balancing classes and abilities, and squashing legions of bugs. That all culminates in the just-launched Patch 13, which completely overhauls how classes and leveling work in the game.

A new RPG from the creators of This War of Mine takes to the magical streets of 20th century Poland

Role-playing video games have taken us on adventures to all sorts of strange locales: grand fantasy landscapes, epic sci-fi universes, sweeping vistas occupied by gods, and otherworldly realms haunted by the dead. However, we've never been swept off to a setting quite like that of The Thaumaturge. That's because this RPG takes place in Warsaw, Poland in the early 20th century—albeit a slightly fantastical version of Warsaw.

Celebrate Black History Month by getting to know some of gaming’s most important Black developers

February is Black History Month in the United States; it’s a time for remembering important events and contributions of people across the African diaspora in all fields. Of course, that includes gaming as well. Though the number of Black game developers is still small compared to non-Black devs, greater diversity within the industry remains a hot topic in the gaming world and in tech as a whole. Here are seven Black game developers who had a major impact on the art form we love that everyone should know about.

New Assassin's Creed Mirage Overview in 60 Seconds

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the latest installment in the 16 year long running franchise. Unlike Odyssey and Valhalla, Mirage aims to deliver a tighter, more focused experience that is grounded in the realm of assassins. Mirage pays great homage to the series roots featuring a league of assassins called the Hidden Ones. You take the mantle of Basim, the key supporting assassin character from Valhalla, and how he turns into an assassin grandmaster.

ᴀ ᴍᴏʙɪʟᴇ ᴡɪsʜ: Tak and the Power of Juju

ʟᴇᴛs ᴅɪᴠᴇ ɪɴᴛᴏ ᴛʜɪs ᴏᴠᴇʀʟᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ, 2000’s ɢᴇᴍ Tak and the Power of Juju is an action-adventure platformer created by Avalanche Software, and was published by THQ Nordic (simply THQ at the time of publication) in October of 2003. It was met with mixed to average reviews by critics, and was given an average rating of about 6/10. At the time of its release it was looked over by many potential players because of the bigger named titles that released that year (Jak 2, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, and DMC2 to name a few). You could play this title on the GameCube, PS2, and the Game Boy Advance (the format that I owned). Luckily for me this game released during my childhood ( I was 7 at release) and couldn't be bothered with the snobby opinions of "video game critics" reviews (let alone fully read them if I wanted to). Not only was this game awesome visually, the main character "Tak" was voiced by Jason Marsden (Max from "A Goof Movie" and Chester from "The Fairy Odd Parents"). This game was one of my first memories playing a Game Boy Advance, and couldn't be happier with this new title in my little gaming collection.

Remember Stargate? It's back—in real-time tactical game form!

For a certain type of dorky kid growing up in the '90s, the Stargate franchise was a formative gateway into goofy-yet-fun, low-budget sci-fi adventures. Beginning with the 1994 movie Stargate, the series quickly expanded out into multiple TV shows, comics, cartoons, books, and yes, video games. And while there hasn't been much going on with this IP in recent years, that's finally changing this week, as an all-new Stargate game has just launched...and you can even play the first mission for free.
