SHOULD I PLAY MY TIME AT SANDROCK? My Time at Sandrock is a terrific follow-up to My Time at Portia, so you won’t want to miss it if you liked the original. I’d also recommend it to anyone who likes crafting, farming sims, or survival games. While both titles in the series take place in a post-apocalyptic world, My Time at Sandrock really made me feel like I was fighting against the environment. There’s something strangely cozy about searching for resources in an inhospitable wasteland. Whether I was helping a local find shade or repairing damage after a nasty sandstorm, it felt like I was making the world around me a better place, and that was really satisfying.

We're huge fans of the twisty storytelling and gruesome deaths of the Danganronpa series of visual novels, but there hasn't been a new mainline entry since 2017's Danganronpa V3. With that in mind, we're starting to look elsewhere to get our fix of kidnapped innocents placed into a dastardly game of death. Luckily, we don't have to wait much longer for a game that looks like it might just fill that void.

If you’re not a fan of the franchise, it probably won’t win you over, but if you’ve enjoyed other Disgaea titles or are curious about the series, this is a game you won’t want to miss. We have recently been testing new destructible object capabilities within the game. Developers have created a novel feature that implements physically accurate collision and destruction simulations. Items within the virtual environment can now break apart in a manner consistent with real-world material properties when struck by in-game forces such as player characters, weapons, skills or other destructive influences. The new system dynamically models factors like material strength, impact force distribution, fracturing patterns and debris generation.

SHOULD I PLAY METAL SLUG: AWAKENING? Play this one, especially if you’re a fan of the original Metal Slug series or like the simplicity of old-school run-and-gun games. Metal Slug: Awakening takes all the familiarities of this side-scrolling shooter and brings them into the modern age. It’s been a minute since I’ve played any Metal Slug games, but I’d be damned if I wasn’t impressed with the three-dimensional visuals, fully voiced cast, online multiplayer, and the barrage of weapons I could use to destroy all manner of freedom-hating enemies across the map.

Capcom released a new update for Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition on October 24, 2023. SHOULD I PLAY THE CUB? Hell yes, especially since there’s a free demo available now. The Cub is an action-packed 2D platformer set on a postapocalyptic Earth that looks set to be one of the first indie hits of 2024. While the full game won’t be available until January 19, 2024, you can play the demo for free now, and it’s already very impressive. The game’s gorgeous visuals and challenging gameplay were definitely enough to sell me, and I can’t wait to check out the full version.

PLAY IT OR SKIP IT? Play it if you’re a fan of building and management games. Park Beyond isn’t as deep as theme park builders like Planet Coaster, but it’s a fun, easy-to-play game with a great selection of maps and building tools. While I was able to build some pretty complex roller coasters from scratch, Park Beyond also has plenty of prefabricated rides and coasters, making it perfect for short or more casual play sessions. I did run into some issues during my playtime, but most of those problems were pretty minor, and I’m hoping they’ll be addressed through patches in the not-too-distant future.
