For a certain type of dorky kid growing up in the '90s, the Stargate franchise was a formative gateway into goofy-yet-fun, low-budget sci-fi adventures. Beginning with the 1994 movie Stargate, the series quickly expanded out into multiple TV shows, comics, cartoons, books, and yes, video games. And while there hasn't been much going on with this IP in recent years, that's finally changing this week, as an all-new Stargate game has just launched...and you can even play the first mission for free.

"Nuclear Throne" is an action-packed and explosive shooter that fuses the intense energy of bullet hell with the tactical risk assessment of a roguelike game. With its diverse arsenal of weapons, ranging from standard revolvers to plasma cannons, the game caters to fans of fast-paced run-and-gun gameplay while requiring patience and strategic thinking from more deliberate players. This game features a vibrant cast of characters and a straightforward progression system that grants enjoyable new abilities as players advance.

News Tower is the full sim package, requiring equal parts time management, resource management, building layout, and creative input into what stories you assign your reporters to chase down each week. Running your own news empire isn’t easy, but News Tower makes it awfully fun.

The game's graphics are impressive, with detailed and beautifully rendered spaceships and environments that really capture the epic scale of interstellar battles. The sound design is also top-notch, with a sweeping orchestral score that helps to create a sense of grandeur and adventure. But the real standout feature of Homeworld Mobile is its gameplay. The game strikes a perfect balance between accessibility and depth, with intuitive touch controls that make it easy to manage your fleet and engage in battles, while still offering plenty of strategic options and tactical depth. The game's campaign mode offers a compelling story that keeps you invested in the fate of your fleet and the fate of the galaxy. And once you've completed the campaign, there are plenty of skirmish and multiplayer modes to keep you coming back for more. One minor issue I encountered with the game was that it occasionally suffered from lag or stuttering on my older phone, but this was a minor annoyance that didn't detract from the overall experience. Overall, Homeworld Mobile is an excellent addition to the series and a must-play for fans of space strategy games. This is one of the best mobile games I've played. I've tested what devices can handle this, and to my surprise most low end devices can actually handle this game. Though you might get kicked out of a match once in awhile. On low end devices it runs at a smooth 20-30 fps, which is pretty decent for low end devices. It can stutter a bit, but it's definitely playable. This is a short and sweet one, 5 out of 5 stars, highly recommended, my very honest and true opinion.
