2018年5月2日晚8點左右，昌平區警方接到一位女士報警，說有人給她發來視頻，視頻內容是她的兒子陳子騫被綁架了，綁匪表示只要五十萬現金。經警方調查，鎖定了她兒子的位置就在袁家賓館。袁家賓館也在昌平區，但位置相對較偏遠，一般只有到周邊景點旅遊的人才會選擇此賓館住宿，平時人不多，只有周末和節假日人會多一些。當警方趕到此地，找到這個孩子，卻發現他已經死在了賓館的衛生間內。房間及衛生間都沒有明顯掙扎的痕跡，也沒有發現可疑的人。死者被帶走進行檢查，父母及賓館老闆都去錄了口供。
