Dearest Artisans,
The game was first displayed outside of China at the 2018 Next Idea Creativity Contest held at the louvre, France. The contest invited young Chinese artists to compete, stipulating contestants to use the image of the Mona Lisa for their pieces. Over 100 designs were submitted. Mudoku: Chinese Woodcraft was one of the pieces on display. This marked the first time the game was featured in Europe.

At a Chinese-creativity themed exhibition at the Guimet Museum, Paris, January 30, 2019, Mudoku: Chinese Woodcraft was officially added to the museum’s extensive collection of Asian art and is on display to visitors from France and around the world.

The T formed by a horizontal piece of wood atop a vertical piece of wood was representative of traditional Chinese architecture in the eyes of French people. Moduku: Chinese Woodcraft not only holds value for its traditional cultural and artistic content, but its content is relatable in its current form. It is the fusion of young innovation and traditional culture. This game promotes China’s amazing traditional culture, but also enriches Sino-French communication. We also hope that this type of communication will spread around the world and allow an increasing number of young people to experience traditional art.

Welcome, Artisans
Dearest Artisans, Greetings! We will release Mudoku: Chinese Woodcraft, a puzzle game globally Nov. 10.  Mudoku: Chinese Woodcraft is a project that we have developed with our hearts and souls for four years. In this game, we would like to explore the possibilities - to pass on and promote traditional culture, to show the wisdom and craftsmanship of traditional mortise and tenon using new media. Let more young people learn about mortise and tenon, let the world understand the wisdom of craftsmen, and feel the beauty of Chinese culture.

This New Board Game Allows You to Experience the Life of Modern Artist
Isabella Jiangcheng -- Superpixel This board game has become an unexpected form of expression for young Chinese artists to showcase their attitude toward current affairs. We have previously introduced the trendy but controversial Chinese board game Cheers or Tears, which mocks the so-called drinking culture of China and the negative, sometimes almost laughable, connotations behind it. Recently, a new board game has gained some attention on Chinese social media. The game is called ‘Guide to Becoming a Successful Contemporary Artist’ (成功当代艺术家指南), designed by artist He Jienei and HF Art Space. Just like Cheers or Tears, the game aims to provide an immersive experience for players. It allows the players to step into the world of contemporary art - only to find the dark side behind the glamour. With some hard truths and a dash of self-mockery, Guide to Becoming a Successful Contemporary Artist soon became a topical board game.

I actually build GunPla models and Warhammer miniatures in my spare time, and Mudoku just resonates with me. I thought it was just another ordinary puzzle game, but boy, is it not. The game itself is quite unique, so a huge plus on that part, as players get to build Chinese woodworks which range from the simple to the more complicated. Players are given some wood and instructions how to build certain items, and they must cut and assemble them piece-by-piece. To be honest, all this feels a lot like building my Warhammer 40,000 and GunPla models... but with wood... and in a video game.
