Some months back, we mentioned that we’ll be creating a map for each hero we have. Currently, we have Sivi’s Studio, Heracle’ Olympus, Sophia’s Center School, and Macalon’s Paradise. Today, we wanna share our latest map’s concept art…can you guess which hero it belongs to?

When we started designing this background, we thought about illustrating the hero’s optimistic and peace-lovin’ personality. As such, our designers focused on building a scene that is teeming with life, yet tranquil in terms of its atmosphere. The mountains, villages and people living there were all inspired by real-world locations that are full of snow: snow lands, polar regions, Hokkaido in Japan, etc. But when a rough sketch of the background was completed, our designers quickly realized that the scene looked too ordinary, like someplace we would live. Simply put, it was not magical enough to suit the Flash Party vibe.

In order to improve it, we reviewed the background for quite a while and thereafter decided to focus on the mountaintop. The typical human might not want to live there, but it would make perfect sense for the mystery hero! Hence, we continued the background design in this direction and started detailing the sketch.
Initially, we did not give ourselves any specific restrictions. We reached an agreement while brainstorming that the design should revolve around the hero’s daily life. Hence, we tried multiple angles and created a number of scenes that could potentially be used to reflect his life. These include an indoor dining table, a big fridge with food in it, a place on the back of the mountain where dragons rest, a path that leads you out of the mountaintop village, and so on.
Eventually, we settled on a unique scene featuring a path that leads you out of the mountaintop village. By now, you should be able to guess whose hometown this is, based on the big clues we’ve given ya! Even though we already finalized the overall setting, you might still find the scene a bit too empty. Fret not, though, we’re still gonna add some touches before releasing it on the official server (very soon!).
By the way…if you look carefully when this new scene is officially up, you will be able to see mini “NPCs” here and there, which we hope will bring more vitality to the scene and give you guys a stronger sense of immersion.

Recently, we’ve introduced a new map, Lost Stronghold, which has been warmly received by players (for which we are truly thankful!). To that end, we’ve decided to shed some light on the secrecy and tell you how our developers come up with ideas like this and where they get their inspiration from.

It would be odd if we didn’t investigate the experience of other fans of the game and look into the hundreds of maps created by CoH players for multiplayer battles. The level designer had explored literally every map there, before articulating the vision of our new one.
