Greetings Commanders!
Recently, we’ve introduced a new map, Lost Stronghold, which has been warmly received by players (for which we are truly thankful!). To that end, we’ve decided to shed some light on the secrecy and tell you how our developers come up with ideas like this and where they get their inspiration from.
Warming up
It’s no secret that our team is a big fan of the Company of Heroes. It would be odd if we didn’t investigate the experience of other fans of the game and look into the hundreds of maps created by CoH players for multiplayer battles. The level designer had explored literally every map there, before articulating the vision of our new one.
Gameplay
Our studio shelters many fans of dynamic and fast battles under its roof, so upgrading the Coastline and developing a new map based on it seemed to be a logical next step. We also spiced up the gameplay.
We used the Coastline as a ref because of its simple tactical design and accessibility to both new and experienced players.
Visual design
In the future, we are planning on making our maps more thematic so that each of them would tell you a short story by means of visual design. Lost Stronghold is the first shot!

With this in mind, we made the map so that its visual components refer to the heroic events on the Soviet front. The most vivid image of the USSR to our Western players is connected to snow, so we didn’t hesitate when deciding on the season of the map.

When it came to choosing the place of action and historical references, we made a bid for a ruined town, referring players to the defense of the Brest Fortress and Pavlov's house.
Now, please tell us what maps you would like to see in the game in the future.
