Recently, an open letter accusing Tencent of shutting down its dress-up mobile game without any noticing and only providing items from other Tencent games as compensation was posted on a Chinese social media, quickly gained the attention of a large number of angry Fashion Cloudy players and has got over eight thousand forwards for now.
In the letter, the writer Pumpkinko goes into great detail about how Tencent was still inducing players to spend money on in-game items a month before the game stopped operating and refused to give reasonable real money compensation after shutting down the game.
Pumpkinko stated that a month before the game shut down, Tencent launched a new event that brought back a series of clothing that is already not for sale; players can pay or collect free props to get them. Most players take this new event as a symbol that Tencent will still operate the game and publish new things since the main storyline has stopped updating for two years. Many players are very enthusiastic and purchase many in-game clothing with real money, Pumpkinko herself is one of them.
However, this turned out to not to be the case. Just one month after the launch of this new event, Tencent Games released an announcement that they will shut down Cloudy Fashion after three months and erase all data afterwards.
According to Pumpkinko, Tencent's offered in-game items for other Tencent mobile games for players. Tencent divided the compensation into three levels to distribute according to how much players had spent in Fashion Cloudy, and did not return cash or other forms of compensation.
This practice of Tencent has angered many Fashion Cloudy players. For them, the game-stopping operation comes completely out of the blue, and the last update seems like a very obvious cash grab. Currently, the player community is asking Tencent to continue operating an off-line version Fashion Cloudy that remains the basic dress up feature and all player's data. Some players are also reporting Tencent's corresponding violations of players' rights to the China Consumers Association and are preparing to sue the operation team of Fashion Cloudy.
