Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, the mobile game developed and operated by NetEase, is trending on Weibo because the game is “treating the players differently”.
Recently, a blogger on Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) posted a screenshot showing off some no longer attainable items she received along with some free in-game currency. The blogger explained that one of her friends was attending a NetEase meeting, and Ding Lei, the founder and CEO of NetEase, gave all attendees special in-game gift boxes.

LOFTER, a light blog launched by NetEase, posted an official statement clarifying this was an offline event gift for those invited content creators and that the distribution of gifts only went to those verified accounts.

The blogger who triggered the backlash also deleted her original post and made an apology saying her previous action was out of vanity and the item she obtained was actually time-limited and would expire after a week. But the furious players seem not to be buying their explanation.

South Korean Players Outraged by Nikke's Alleged False Advertising
Weilin Li -- Superpixel Highly anticipated third-person shooter Goddess of Victory: Nikke was released on November 4th. Players around the world were not only looking forward to meeting their new bouncy Waifus but also expected enticing launch rewards, as the publisher promised 110 free pulls (or attempts at characters/items from the game’s loot box system) for new accounts. However, when players logged in, they were extremely frustrated to find out that the free gifts come with a big catch. Some even went so far as to claim they would sue the developer of the game for commercial fraud, a violation of South Korea's price law, and alleged theft of personal information.

This game has amazing potential, amazing art and decent gameplay, with a variety of activities. However I cannot stand by any longer with the type of cannibalistic monetisation this game is offering. In case anyone doesn’t know, this game released in China and Taiwan 2 years ago, and it was really good (besides the p2w matchmaking), with a huge base of players. However, after WB decided to co-publish the global version, they have made some very poor decisions in terms of game changes. They removed pets and card skins from battlepasses, reduced the number of rewards for battlepass, increased the number of times you need to spin the wheel to clear it, changed the entire pulling system, removed glitter and VERY NICE vfx for both outfits and wands, gatekeeping resources so we are forced to pay to enjoy the game, the list goes on. The worst change they have made is repackaging content that was previously free or very cheap in CN/TW servers and selling it for
