TapTap over the last few years has grown to become the home for gamers and developers around the world to discover incredible games and interact with each other over our love of games.
While we’ve been hard at work at leveling up your experience on TapTap, we’ve started to realize that something was missing. Yes, we’re hitting all the buttons in terms of function and content, but the whole experience of TapTap just wasn’t fun. We’ve realized the missing link was that there wasn’t a strong connection from the games we play to the entire TapTap experience. That’s when we decided that our brand sorely needed an ‘update’.
Over the last few months, we sat down and threw everything we knew of our brand back to the drawing board. Everything. We looked with open eyes into the heart and soul of our collective DNA as gamers. We sat with countless gamers and developers alike as we delved into what TapTap can mean for them and what TapTap can mean for the broader gaming community.
We learned what made TapTap so special for the millions of users who already use it. We learned that there was a lot that we could be doing. And most importantly, we learned what the answer was to our brand’s purpose: TapTap should feel like an extension to the gaming world, the game doesn’t end when you hop on to TapTap, and TapTap should feel like a home (or secret hideout) for all gamers out there.
So rather than simply refresh TapTap, we hit the reset button. Welcome to the new TapTap.
Introducing our new mascot: Tato
In a sea of simplified, flat, and soulless 2D design, TapTap has spawned a new mascot. They’re round-ish, they come in all sorts of vibrant colors, and they definitely let you know how they’re feeling. Meet Tato.
Tato is at the heart of TapTap and they visualize the warmth and inclusive spirit of a place for all gamers.
Each Tato represents one of us as gamers; whether it be a new player, team member, seasoned pro, or a developer behind the scenes. When they all come together, they symbolize our collective community and the range of emotions in gaming.
“They also look like tatter tots.” - our subtle designer
When designing our mascot we had only 1 criteria in mind (other than being perfect): we wanted a character that could conceivably appear in any game. Whether a 3D platformer, a 2D side-scroller, a fantasy RPG, a sci-fi shooter, our mascot can live not only in our world at TapTap but can live in every one of ours.
Look forward to seeing Tato throughout your adventures with TapTap.
Does this change how I use TapTap?
While we may look and feel different, the answer is no.
Whether it's through our editorial content, the games we recommend, or the communities we host, our mission to expand gaming for everyone has not changed.
What will change though is how TapTap will feel. Light blues will become greener to highlight the energy we can find only in gaming. Our logo will become bolder and less cursive to create impact across a sea of gaming and tech titans, typefaces will appear like we finally paid for a fancy font license, and… our tone will be slightly less serious. Slightly.
TLDR: TapTap is different on the outside, the same on the inside.
We can’t wait for you to experience the new TapTap. We would love to hear if you have any thoughts regarding our new look and feel. Shoot us a tweet or message on any of our social channels and we’ll be happy to chat.
This is just the start for us. We’re thrilled you’re with us on this grand adventure, and look forward to many more exciting things to come.
