Player of the Week - @Cloudy

Cloudy is an experienced gaming community moderator. He moderated and is moderating Discord communities for games including PUBG Mobile, T3 Arena, and Sonic Speed Simulator, and is currently an active moderator of our TapTap Discord server. He also writes long reviews for games on TapTap and has already gained a group of readers. His review on Human: Fall Flat in #TapTapExplorerS2 really caught our attention and stimulated our curiosity for a gamer interview. “My biggest review on TapTap was actually done in only an hour,” he told me proudly in our voice chat.

Though he’s only 22 years old, Cloudy always has a specific preference for old-school RPG classics. When invited to talk about his favorite RPG titles, he gave me his TOP 3 list. “Top 1 is definitely Final Fantasy,” he threw out the name without any hesitation, “it’s a legendary series in the US”. The second place goes to the Zelda series, though compared to the very famous Breath of the Wild, he considers himself a fan of the older Zelda classics such as Majora’s Mask and Ocarina of Time. For his Top 3, Cloudy chose the Kingdom Hearts series and called it “a hidden gem series for American players”.

From the over-1-hour conversation with Cloudy, I could definitely feel his passion not only as a gamer, but as someone who’s really growing up together with games. “The Mario franchise is definitely how I started to play games, and I grew up playing older games.” Cloudy patiently recalled how things started and elaborated on his own understanding of the development of games. “Mario and Zelda can be seen as the turning point in our gaming culture. From that point on, games got crazier and a lot of people including me started to play games like these two.” He also listed out some older games which could be played on consoles prior to PlayStation, Xbox, and even Nintendo 64, “Ecco the Dolphin, that was a game pretty huge on Sega Genesis”.

In addition to games, Cloudy dedicates a huge part of his life to sports and reading. In his personal bio, he lists basketball as one of his favorite sports and he cheers for the Golden State. Cloudy is also a heavy reader, which can be seen from his smooth and excellent writing. “I read romance, action, fantasy…. I read a lot.” He strongly recommends The 39 Clues and the Percy Jackson series to me. Definitely would give them a try afterward.

It was really a great time chatting with Cloudy despite the time zone differences. Like what I did with other interviewees, I asked Cloudy to come up with a word, phrase, or sentence to describe himself. He thought for a while, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get,” he quoted a famous line from Forrest Gump, “this is what best describes me personally. You never know what you will get with me”. I guess that indeed is an accurate portrait of Cloudy. He’s a gamer, a community moderator, and also a content creator, and we can definitely expect more sides of him in the world of gaming.
