Ballistic is a premium mobile game that is inspired by games like Breakout and Arkanoid, but with a new take on the genre.
Gameplay wise this game was okay, the controls are very basic and easy to learn, but I did think that the choice to have all skills hidden inside your backpack was an extra step that wasn’t needed. The game could have had all pick up items listed at the bottom of the screen to quickly tap on with ease when it comes to using them. Opening the backpack and then having to long press for 2 seconds seems like a bit too much extra especially when some of the maps want you to complete it quickly. So thats a few extra steps that can cost some time to your overall time accumulated. I also think the little cinematics that pop in when you enter a new map is not needed, it just repeats the same animated sequence, just in a different location. I think that if the game just let us get right into it, it would be better. Seeing the same animation before every map is very repetitive and gets pretty boring after a while.
There is a ball that you have to control to break objects while you are trying to complete your mission, and while it is a pretty cool idea where you have to bop it in different directions in order to break the items you need, I do feel that it can get pretty frustrating, especially on the bigger maps, and the ball may end up going a direction you don’t want it to. For a casual game I find this to be a bit too frustrating for my liking. There is no cash shop from what I can tell however, everything you want to buy can only be earned from the gold that you have collected from the game itself. You cannot buy gold or diamonds for that matter. Pretty surprising but it is a welcome feature in a game that you already paid for. There is also character customisation in the game, you can change your characters skin color, add a sticker on their head as well as customise their movement trail. And all of this can be purchased with diamonds, which seems to be an in game earned currency and not be able to be purchased with real money as far as I can tell. If that truly is the case the game is very kind with their customisation shop items.
Visually this game is looking really good. Your character is bright and shiny since it’s a robot and the maps are diverse and can get challenging. The visuals for the maps are nice as well. I definitely do like the visual aspect of this gameq uite a lot.
Overall I’d say that Ballistic has it’s moments and can be fun at times, with easy to learn controls that won’t overwhelm you, it will definitely be easy to pickup. I just think the steps to use skills need to be changed. And trying to hit the ball with your own character can be frustrating and not fun at all. Especially on the larger maps. This game is a premium game so there is a cost to it, so you will have to decide if this game is worth the cost. I do like how there doesn’t seem to be a real money cash shop and only an in game one so thats got it going for it.
