DEV BLOG #2 - Place & Remove Units

37K View2022-12-02
Hello wobblers!
In our last dev blog on TABS pocket edition, we shared the design of camera controls during the placement phase.
Now, it’s time to introduce the actual deployment part - to place and remove units on mobile!
Unit Placement and Removal
In the original PC version, players can click on the map to place units, or hold the left mouse button and swipe on map to quickly deploy an array of wobblers, avoiding the inconvenience of placing them one by one.
TapTap
However, when it comes to mobile devices, it’s not that convenient to place a large number of units one by one due to the limited screen size. And it would also take much time to clear a bunch of units by tapping on screen when you feel unsatisfied with the current formation in the battlefield.
Besides, it’s also not quite possible to place or remove many units consecutively just by dragging with your finger on mobile, as swiping on screen is intuitively designed for adjusting the top-down view - like panning or zooming in and out:
TapTap
Therefore, to achieve the smoothness of arranging armies on mobile, we add two buttons on both sides of the screen: Place Units ↓ and Remove Units ↑.
With one hand holding the Place/Remove button and another hand swiping on the map at the same time, dozens of units can be deployed or cleared with just one stroke, smooth like a drawing pad.
TapTap
In this way, players can unleash their creativity on the map canvas drawing their tactical formation of whatever they like🎨
That’s all for today’s small talk on TABS pocket edition! We will keep working on mobile development & optimization and keep you updated on our new progress. If you have any comments or suggestions, don’t hesitate to join our official Discord for further discussion: https://discord.gg/tabsmobile

Currently the mobile version is still under XD’s development. The mobile version will have quite a bit more kinks to iron out compared to the console versions to bring the authentic TABS experience. Therefore we can’t give a clear launch date. We'll keep you guys posted on the progress, stay tuned on our dev blogs and in-dev footage!

DEV BLOG #4 - Unit Possession
Hello wobblers! Ain’t it fun to be a wobbler and join the thrilling battles by yourself in TABS? We’ve been working on optimizing the [Unit Possession] mode for the pocket edition. Now it’s time to take a look at this mode and talk about its mobile design thoughts! The [Unit Possession] mode is to switch from the top-down god-like perspective to the unit perspective with a simple tap, and manipulate this unit to move and attack.

DEV BLOG #5 - Custom Unit and Battle
Hi wobblers! In today's dev log, we’ll talk about 'sandbox' - one of core features of TABS gameplay. In the original PC sandbox mode, there are no limits on factions and budgets, players can freely choose maps and create their own units, performing farces of melee and chaos. Accordingly, in the current mobile version, we have implemented Unit Editor and battle customization based on the original PC design, allowing mobile players to customize all kinds of creative units giving free rein to imagination.
