PLAY IT OR SKIP IT?
Play this game! It’s the holiday season, and there’s no better time to play a game that emphasizes the strength of family bonds. Then again, with its satisfying puzzles, vibrant backdrops, and emotional musical score, there really isn’t a bad time to play Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, even if the dual control scheme takes getting used to.
TIME PLAYED
I’ve spent around two hours on this game and got to chapter three. This gave me enough time to see a variety of puzzles the game had to offer, get chased by a crazy dog, traverse a cave, and make friends with a giant!
WHAT’S AWESOME
• The story. The narrative is what drives this game: the bond between brothers, the experience of loss, and the mission that keeps them trekking on. Considering that there’s no actual understandable language and just a bunch of gibberish, it’s even more impressive that Brothers captures this level of emotion.
• Visuals. The visuals were smooth and impressive on my iPhone 13. Sometimes I enjoyed just lingering in an area to explore the surroundings.
WHAT SUCKS
• Controls. Hands down, this was one of the flawed aspects of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Between controlling both brothers and maneuvering the camera, there were moments when this game was downright frustrating on my iPhone 13. This is especially true when the brothers were far apart or on different platforms, and I had to simultaneously maneuver both to solve a puzzle.
