I spent half a decade playing Overwatch and later relished most of Overwatch 2, all the way up to Season 2. With Season 3 debuting not too long ago, on February 7, 2023, there’s so much to unpack and a lot more to look back on. As someone that’s enjoyed the game so much, I’m absolutely stoked for Season 3.
Firstly, Overwatch 2 Season 3 is jam-packed with action and a buttload of goodies. The battle pass features a ton of interesting cosmetics, as well as other stuff like icons and banners to bling out any player’s account. Oh, not to forget, there’s also a really dope mythic skin for the support character, Kiriko, that players can get their hands on.
Compared to previous versions, the Season 3 battle pass seems like a solid deal if you’re interested enough in playing for the entire seasonal period. As for myself, I’ve already bought it, specifically for the mythic skin. It’s really that awesome. But even if you’re not looking to buy the battle pass, there are still a bunch of free rewards to collect, simply by playing the game.
Along with the battle pass, comes another new map to play on, called Antarctic Peninsula. Although it’s not quite the same as Ecopoint: Antarctica, which is another map that’s seen across arena matches, it seems to be a part of the same area.
The map features unique sights, such as an ice-breaking ship and an underground drilling station. It holds many high-ground advantage areas and flank routes for players to swoop enemies from behind. It’s hard to tell if the map has any significant connection with Mei’s lore or background, but from where it’s positioned, it’s likely to be another research and mining facility too.
Besides the map, Overwatch 2 Season 3 will also feature a bunch of events too. To celebrate Valentine's Day, there’ll be an event called Ultimate Valentine featuring rewards to snatch and skins to purchase in-shop, more specifically an epic cosmetic for Hanzo.
Alongside Ultimate Valentines comes Overwatch 2’s first-ever major collaboration. In collaboration with the anime, One Punch Man, Overwatch 2 will showcase another cool-looking cosmetic and hold rewards for players to earn.
And finally, last but not least, the adored event PachiMarchi is returning. Yes, that adorable, cute half-onion, half-octopus is coming back with a whole lot of goodies to grab. Players can earn tons of Pachimari-themed rewards and try out an all-new game mode featured during PachiMarchi.
So far, there’s a lot to look forward to in Overwatch 2 Season 3. I personally got to play a couple of hours of it today and I got to say, the game feels great. Some characters do feel a little stronger than others—cough, Sojourn—but the game feels pretty good. I don’t know if that’s just me having a couple of decent games, though, but I’m lovin’ it so far. I only hope that it continues to feel this great down the line, but seeing all the new updates coming and going, I'm not too worried.
