7Days is far from the best-written story-heavy visual novel I've ever played, but there is something strangely compelling about it. I played as an amnesiac girl named Kirell who has died under mysterious circumstances. She has a chance to be resurrected and get back to life, but she only has seven days to do so and has to contend with a bunch of other recent dead souls.
This intriguing tale is told in text message style, with the player making choices in how Kirell responds to the various freaks and weirdos she encounters in the afterlife. Every once in a while I was given a glimpse of a nice animated scene, but for the most part, there's not much in the way of visuals here.
The moment-to-moment writing isn't particularly noteworthy either. I'm not sure where developer Buff Studio hails from, but the dialogue has that tinge of awkwardness that I usually see in a script that's been translated to English as quickly and cheaply as possible. It's not complete nonsense or anything, but it doesn't read naturally either.
And yet...I still have rather enjoyed my time with 7Days. The setup is undeniably strong, and as simple as the choices I made were, I was always excited to see what happens. The game also provides a useful "Timeline" function that let me look at all the different ways the game's narrative can branch out. I imagine that would be extremely useful for replays.
So yeah, if you're looking for a truly great visual novel, 7Days doesn't quite reach that level. But that doesn't mean it's not worth giving a shot, especially for the cheap asking price of $1.99.
