The 9 Worst Fortnite Skins Of All Time

Fortnite has been a cultural phenomenon for more than five years, which means Epic Games has produced a large number of skins for its battle royale shooter. The game has amassed a genuinely amazing amount of crossovers from the vast universe of pop culture, ranging from Star Wars to anime to horror films to sports to everything in between. Sadly, because there are so many of these outfits—over 1500 and counting, if you're curious—some will simply be better than others. So before you spend your hard-earned V-bucks on a new skin, no matter how limited-time it is, make sure it isn't one of these stinkers.

The topic of whether Fortnite skins are the worst is clearly a very subjective one, and you may own or even like any of the skins on this list. Finally, we attempted to highlight a range of some of Fortnite's worst offenders based on a number of factors, so you won't only see despised novelty skins here. (I apologise to any Peelie detractors out there.) Here it is, without further ado:

Mincemeat

If this were a ranked list, this would be number one with a bullet. Mincemeat is not just one of the worst Fortnite skins, but also one of the oddest character designs in a video game in recent years. While I have to give Epic credit for coming up with this concept—a horrifying pie man straight out of a horror film—there may be a reason why no other game thought to incorporate a skin like this. I applaud Epic's commitment to the Halloween theme, but this dessert is unsightly and unattractive, and is only suitable for frightening your younger relatives.

Fabio Sparklemane

Fabio Sparklemane, maybe the most divisive choice on this list, has split Fortnite fans for years. I'm sure the rainbow-haired stallion has his supporters, but to me, he seems like a DeviantArt rip-off of a certain beloved children's television show involving multicoloured horses—a licence Epic could easily obtain if they so desired. Fabio's generic, NPC-like appearance may appeal to certain gamers, but he sticks out like a sore thumb to me, and not in a good way.

Sinister Striker

Fortnite's zombie skins were a huge hit, and gamers couldn't get enough of the game's football skins. Yet, combining the two for yet another Halloween skin resulted in some lacklustre outcomes. While the skin isn't as unoriginal as several on this list (the huge ball is a great touch), it's such a particular blend of themes that it doesn't have much appeal, unless possibly around Halloween. It's no surprise that this skin is frequently regarded as one of the game's least-popular.

Flytrap

Flytrap, the first Legendary item on this list, is just one of those skins that makes you wonder "why?" The character's Poison Ivy-inspired design isn't the worst starting point, but it soon degrades, especially in terms of colour harmonisation. Flytrap reminds me of rotting grapefruit, or possibly your friend's amateur costuming for a supervillain you've never heard of. Whilst Flytrap isn't the worst skin on this list, Fortnite has come a long way since 2018, and your 2,000 V-Bucks would be better spent elsewhere.

The Brat

Depending on your own preferences, The Brat will most likely be at the top or bottom of your list of Fortnite skins, with little in between. Whilst this skin is frequently likened to its banana-themed cousin Peely, the Brat is just a bizarre midway spot between ridiculous and want tobe-cool in my opinion. The backward cap, sunglasses, and tattered jeans look out of place with the lettuce vest and mustard zig-zags, or perhaps that's part of the charm. Nonetheless, it's one of my least favourite Fortnite skins.

Clover Team Leader

This skin is just another example of a Fortnite design that sits between between referencing another media property and creating Epic's own version of it. The ragged bear-suit in this example looks like something a Five Nights at Freddy's fan could draw in class, yet it ends up being the example that appears when you Google the term "fursuit." Certain skins in a game like Fortnite are bound to slip into this category, and Clover Team Leader is just one recent example. But, it is extremely ugly, so it makes the list.

Renegade

Renegade, one of the very first skins ever sold in Fortnite's Item Shop, is a great example of how far the game's skins have progressed since its inception in 2017. In this example, Epic wants you to pay 800 V-Bucks for what is effectively the default Banshee skin with a red shirt instead of an orange shirt. Reskins and palette changes are a well-worn video game practise, but unless you're a die-hard Banshee fan, there's no reason to spend real money on this. Renegade isn't a particularly bad skin, but it's here as a stand-in for all of Epic's weak tea reskins over the years, and it merits a slot for that alone.

Twistie & Bendie

Not every Fortnite skin design will blow you away, but Twistie and Bendie are a silly notion that could've been done far better. For my part, they don't resemble the goofy arm-flailing tubemen you see on the side of the road in the United States. Instead, they fall into the traditional Fortnite pitfall of seeming an off-brand superhero or an abandoned sidekick for the Michelin Man. It's nearly hard to give the strange tube-man credit while still meeting the person-sized standards of an online shooter, so maybe they should've started over.

Aerobic Assassin & Mullet Marauder

This '80s-themed "Spandex Squad" pair has to be one of the most bizarre Fortnite skin concepts ever. When you consider that the typical Fortnite player was born at least 15 to 20 years after this craze and look fizzled out, it's simple to understand why it's one of the game's least-popular skins. The actual execution of the jazz cup-esque colour scheme is quite competent, as are the hair effects. This is only one of the skins available for the game's fathers, and there's nothing wrong with it. So it's easy to see why most gamers are opposed to it.
