According to Chronicles of Hohweall left by an ancient scholar Gardo Desenbyd, around a thousand years ago, the gods sent a curse unexpectedly, along with a devastating divine punishment sweeping across the land in an instant. In the midst of howling winds and bitter rain, the continent was torn apart by a terrible force and slowly sank to the ocean, and almost every creature suffered from this catastrophe and died in agony.
Only a small group of people survived the apocalypse, but what remained in their homeland was ruins and despair, so they sailed east to find a new settlement. After all their trials and tribulations, they finally reached a new continent—Novusaes.
The survivors continued their migration inland, traversing the endless wilderness before settling on both sides of the Fyrstea River, where they established their first town, Duginnan, which means 'new beginning'. Over time, the survivors were able to establish the first nation on the continent, the Kingdom of Arere.
In their quest for more fertile lands, the Areren gradually expanded southwards until a mountain range blocked their way. They named it the Delnathir Mountains, meaning "Serpent Range", like a huge serpent stretching across the central-western part of the continent, leaving those who endeavored to cross it in hopelessness. Undeterred, these pioneers continued their trek to the east, trying to bypass the Delnathir Mountains and explore a way to the south. But the reality hit them hard—at the end of the Delnathir Mountains was a long, treacherous and unrelenting river that, as far as they could see, looked like a scar that had been carved and twisted into the vast landscape. The river came to be known as the Eschara, meaning 'River of Scars'. After long term exploration and many unnecessary sacrifices, the pioneers finally gave up on the idea of moving south.
The blockage to the south forced the Areren to keep expanding to the north, and with their efforts, civilisation and faith eventually spread to every corner of the northern area. After centuries of division and annexation, three additional kingdoms were established, including the kingdom of Nortouahe, populated mainly by elves and orcs; the kingdom of Baraigne, known for its fierce inhabitants; and the kingdom of Islette, with its advanced industrial and commercial industries. As the northern continent was mountainous, numerous valleys and chasms formed natural protection for each kingdom, and the four northern kingdoms managed to co-exist despite disputes on their borders.
However, on the other side of the continent, the settlers who landed in the south were much more fortunate...(To be continued...)
